A massive Disney reorganization has delayed the premiere of Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars, pushing the beginning of the MCU’s Phase 6 to 2025. At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios previously unveiled a plethora of new projects, including two Avengers movies scheduled for release six months apart in 2025. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars were scheduled to premiere in May and November of 2025, respectively. Disney has however revealed that Avengers: Secret Wars, which was initially scheduled for release on November 7, 2025, will instead hit theaters on May 5, 2026.
The May 2025 release date for The Kang Dynasty has not been altered. The first one will likely center on Jonathan Majors’ time-traveling antagonist, a version of whom debuted in Loki and is slated to return in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The Avengers will reunite just six months later for Secret Wars, which is anticipated to conclude the Multiverse Saga that encompasses phases four to six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this point, there aren’t many details available about the two-part blockbuster event, but fan speculation about what all of this may mean for our favorite characters is already rife. Here is all we currently know about Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avenger: Secret Wars might be released in two parts
Postponing the epic Secret Wars release date seems a little uncanny, after the change in release date there is now a gap of one year between the release of Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Other than that there are numerous reasons to believe that Secret Wars will not be just one film.
Both Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars will culminate to end the multiverse saga. The two films are designed to outdo Avengers: Infinity Wars and Avengers: Endgame, the task is huge but fans are more than excited.
In order to top the massive crossover event that was Avengers: Endgame, fans anticipate a multiverse-spanning crossover involving characters from several realms. Though it was not a Multiverse narrative and solely included the heroes and villains of Earth-616, the original Secret Wars comic event from the 1980s has endured as the benchmark for superhero crossover tales. Due to this, Avengers: Secret Wars from the MCU may draw greater inspiration from the corresponding 2015 event.
However if these Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be the grand finale of the Multiverse saga, then three hours is not nearly enough, to sum up, the entire Multiverse storyline and give it a deserving finish. So, breaking the film up in three hours each could give enough time to the storylines, character development, and lead to an Epic finish of MCU’s Multiverse.
MCU should put an end to the Multiverse
It is rumored that with Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars the Multiverse will come to an end. Well, it needs to come to an end, the multiverse was introduced by MCU and became popular because it was cool. Now with increasing continuities and storylines and universes, it is almost impossible to keep track, more importantly, it dissolves the stakes in a story.
There might not be a single plot to tie up in both films as there is so much happening in the MCU right now. With the movies’ parallel plots wrapping up at the same time, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars appear to be two quite distinct projects, and that very well may be the case. This might result in distinct casts for the two films, with one squad of Avengers tackling Kang and another team tackling Secret Wars without having a significant negative influence on one another. The characters in both films would occasionally appear, but for the most part, they would remain separate. In any case, there is a long time before these films release on the big screen, Ant-Man, and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to release on 17 February 2023.
