Zack Snyder has been responsible for a large number of highly influential movies. Aside from his directional work in films of the DC Universe, like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, he has also been responsible for some highly successful projects outside of this particular comic-book universe, 300, Army of the Dead, and the upcoming Rebel Moon being some examples.
Needless to say, Snyder is truly one of the most successful and well-respected directors in the film industry, and Patrick Wilson, who is best known for his work in the Conjuring Universe movies, seems to agree with the sentiment, going as far as to say that Snyders 2009 movie paved the way for another widely successful franchise.
Patrick Wilson Loved Zack Snyder’s Watchmen
Partick Wilson starred in Zack Snyder’s 2009 movie, Watchmen, a darker take on the superhero genre. During an interview with ReelBlend, he talked about why he loved this movie and how it was different than all of his past projects. The actor revealed that this particular film was the only one in the acting portfolio that he has rewatched ever after a premiere.
“Watchmen is the only movie of mine that I have watched front to back since a premiere — that movie is awesome,” Wilson mentioned that he watched this movie with his son so he joked that he had “to fast forward through the scene with Malin Akerman in the ship.”
He stated that this was solely because of how good the movie was and the vision that Zack Snyder had for it. He added that now that he is a filmmaker himself, he wanted to rewatch the movie with a new lens and understands what Snyder was going for.
Partick Wilson Thinks Zack Snyder’s Watchmen Is The Reason For The Avengers’ Success
During this interview, Patrick Wilson also talked about how Watchmen was way ahead of its time with the darkness it brought to the superhero genre. There is no doubt that this movie was not the typical light-hearted action flick like other movies of its kind, choosing to instead have themes of nudity and graphic violence.
“I just wanted to look at it as an older guy, as a filmmaker. I knew Zack was ahead of the curve,” he added. “It’s weird to say that audiences weren’t ready for it. But you need a movie like that. You need movies to go so dark that then Avengers can go so light. I do believe in that.”
He added that even though audiences were not ready for it, this type of darkness was required as it allowed movies like Marvel’s The Avengers to be much more light-hearted and not have such mature themes. He added that he would love to star in a Watchmen movie again if it were to be made now with audiences liking darker tones across all genres.
