One of the most important announcements made by Marvel Studios in recent months, and there have been many, is the reveal of both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. While the latter will most likely remain a mystery for some time, one thing is certain: it will be Jonathan Majors’ turn to shine.
Kang the Conqueror, the main antagonist of the Multiverse Saga, is played by actor Jonathan Majors. The character first debuted as He Who Remains in Loki season 1 finale, and he’ll be back as a new Variant in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania next year.
Jeff Loveness’ experience working for Marvel
According to The Direct, Jeff Loveness, best known for his work on Ricky and Morty and Jimmy Kimmel Live, has been hired to write the script for the upcoming Avengers sequel. He’ll be working alongside Destin Daniel Cretton, who was previously confirmed as the film’s director. Rick and Morty is among the most popular cable sitcoms today because of its crude sense of comedy, deep melancholy, and well-developed characters.
It rapidly became one of Adult Swim’s most critically acclaimed cartoons, so it’s understandable why Marvel would want one of its creative brains to work on their project. In addition to Rick and Morty, Loveness has worked with Marvel, having written multiple comics featuring characters such as Nova, Groot, and the Inhumans.
What does Loveness have in store for his Marvel fans?
During a D23 Expo appearance, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that the forthcoming Ant-Man sequel is “a direct line into Phase 5 and Kang Dynasty.“ This comes as no surprise – after all, Quantumania will debut the villain Kang following his first appearance in the Disney+ series, Loki – but with this statement, one thing is clear: the burden on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has just grown tenfold. Because the two are written by the same person, the quality of that film will influence many people’s expectations for The Kang Dynasty.
Even if Scott Lang’s next quest fails miserably, The Kang Dynasty should not be cast out. After all, the authors of Thor: The Dark World, largely considered to be one of the weakest MCU films, went on to create Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
There is undeniable pressure on much more than Paul Rudd’s return. Following the brilliant Josh Brolin as Thanos, Jonathan Majors has to be the MCU’s big bad; which is a lot to live up to. Hopefully, both Majors and the writers working on his role will give Kang justice and create another magnificent Avengers villain.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be the fifth installment in the Avengers franchise and will conclude Phase Six of the MCU, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars six months later. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be released in theatres on May 2, 2025.
