Mark Ruffalo is an incredibly beloved actor, having a fanbase that adores him and the work he does. He has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing as the Hulk in movies like Thor: Ragnarok, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the Avengers movies series. Aside from this, he has also starred in massive projects outside the MCU like Shutter Island, Now You See Me, Dark Waters, and Zodiac.
Outside of acting, Ruffalo is passionate about a lot of things including his enthusiasm for protecting historic architecture in New York City, something he has been very vocal about in recent times.
Mark Ruffalo Is Trying to Protect A Church In His Neighbourhood
West Park Presbyterian Church, which is situated in the Upper West Side of Manhatten and was built in the 1880s, has not been able to withstand the test of time, causing it to be crumbling in its wake. The people in charge were not able to keep up with the number of resources required to maintain the church and so have decided to sell it instead to a big cooperation that wants to tear the building down to construct luxury apartments.
“Every brownstone in NYC is in a constant state of repair. Go anywhere in the Upper West Side, and there is work being done on “crumbling” brownstones. Lol. This is a historically significant piece of architecture they are getting paid $30M to tear down.” Stated Mark Ruffalo on Twitter
People living in this neighborhood, including Mark Ruffalo, are extremely against this idea as they believe that the building’s age makes it a historically significant piece of agriculture. He added that the money that the cooperation is using to tear down the church can be used to restore it instead.
Mark Ruffalo Asks His Fans To Support Him In Saving West Park Presbyterian Church
Following this, Mark Ruffalo went on Twitter to ask his followers there to help him save West Park Presbyterian Church. He stated there that he does not believe that New York City should turn into a city of luxury apartments and lose its luster. He then asked anyone who was interested in this to sign a petition, stating that their small effect could make a big difference.
“If you believe in keeping NYC NYC and not just a mecca of luxury apartment buildings, please sign our petition and chip in. A little goes a long way.” he said.
The petition was started by The Center at West Park Inc. and has almost 6000 signatures. It has a goal of protecting the church, which has been home to an incredible amount of historical events for artists and has become a beloved community center, from demolition.
