Avengers fans, get ready for some shocking news. According to recent reports, the writer for the upcoming Avengers 5 film, Jeff Loveness, has hinted that legacy Avengers characters may not survive The Kang Dynasty and will be replaced by a new generation of heroes.
The announcement has shocked many fans who have become close to Marvel Comics heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow. It would seem, however, that Marvel is prepared to move on and present a new roster of heroes in their stead.
The Multiverse Challenge
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Loveness brought up the difficulties of writing in a shared universe and offered advice on avoiding staleness. Because the multiverse is “too accessible,” he said, the true test is “to put your own unique spin on it.”
“In many ways, it’s too accessible to the audience now, and the challenge is to put your own unique spin on it because of great things like ‘Rick and Morty,’ ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ So I feel that the audience is a bit smarter than we give them credit for, and the trick is to find the humanity in the middle of it.”
Loveness then talks about the “downside to multiverse stories,” saying that it can make the “characters seem disposable” or can also make the“storyline seem unimpactful.”
“The downside to multiverse stories is that it can make your characters seem disposable, or it can make your storyline seem unimpactful if there’s an unlimited amount of these characters out there. So I try not to focus on the multiverse; I try to focus on what it means for the particular character who’s facing it.”
Loveness also said that it’s important to pay attention to the interpersonal dynamics of the story’s protagonists and antagonists. He used Ant-Man and Kang the Conqueror to illustrate how adding a human element to a tale can make it more engaging.

So what exactly does this portend for the Avengers’ further adventures? It would seem that Marvel is prepared to experiment and cause a stir. Several of the original Avengers are not anticipated to make it through the transition to The Kang Dynasty.
This is disappointing but not unexpected information. There have been hints that Marvel is planning a new set of heroes. Marvel is set to retire some of its older heroes in favor of newer ones like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel.
We won’t know who survives The Kang Dynasty until we watch the film. Nonetheless, the future of the Avengers seems bright, and Marvel is taking some significant risks.
The Future of MCU’s Multiverse
While fans will have to wait to find out how everything turns out, one thing is certain: The Kang Dynasty has all the makings of a thrilling and unexpected Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Fans are excited about more than simply the possibility of character deaths. Marvel seems eager to explore all the plot possibilities the universe affords.
Loveness dropped a few hints, stating he and the other Marvel writers are eager to “take it up a notch” with their multiverse narrative. We are in for some genuinely mind-bending storytelling in the coming years, with movies like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse further exploring the multiverse.
“You’ve seen Spider-Man with a mustache, you’ve seen Doctor Strange without a goatee, so it’s time to evolve a bit with our multiverse storytelling. And between me doing ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and Michael Waldron doing ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ I think we’re both excited to take it up a notch because the audience already has a pretty good education in it.”
There are, of course, some who refuse to let the original Avengers retire. The departure of these stars is heartbreaking because they represent everything fans love about the MCU. It’s important to remember that Marvel has always been about trying new ideas and stepping beyond the norm.
Even if we don’t always agree with their choices, we have to give them credit for being ready to experiment. Maybe the current crop of heroes will become as cherished as their predecessors. After everything is said and done, Marvel is dedicated to maintaining the MCU’s high quality and popularity.
We can always expect them to do something unexpected, introducing new characters or venturing into the wider cosmos. Although the end of The Kang Dynasty marks the conclusion of an era, it also marks the start of a new and exciting chapter for the Avengers. Everyone here is eagerly anticipating Marvel’s next move.
Avengers 5 will be in theatres on May 2, 2025.
