Harry Potter has been one of the most popular franchises that kept on engaging fans from all across the world with their enthralling adventures and quirky spells. It also featured several unique artifacts that made the overall series more fun. However, the crucial ingredient in making this franchise mega-successful is the actors who brought the iconic novel series to life.
We already know that actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson portrayed Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger respectively gaining global prominence. But, many supporting actors were the cherry on top of it. However, they couldn’t cheat death with the old cloak of invisibility. Let’s honor the actors who made our fantasy franchise more special.
Alan Rickman
Alan Rickman portrayed the role of Severus Snape in the Daniel Radcliffe-led Harry Potter series. Back in August 2015, he suffered from a minor stroke, which led to the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He later revealed that he had terminal cancer which was only known to his closest people. He passed away on 14 January 2016 in London at the age of 69.
His demise was confirmed by his family who released a statement sharing,
“He was surrounded by family and friends.”
He was a crucial part of the franchise who left enormous memories for fans to always keep him alive in their hearts forever.
Robbie Coltrane
He knew that his character would continue to live on for decades through his portrayal. In the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, he mentioned.
“The legacy of the movies is that my children’s generation will show them to their children, so you could be watching it in 50 years’ time, easy,” he said. “I’ll not be here sadly, but Hagrid will.”
Quite heartbreaking but beautiful words from the man who left his legacy with his craft. He passed into eternity on 14 October 2022, at the age of 72.
Richard Harris
Irish actor, Richard Harris portrayed Albus Dumbledore in the first two films, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which was released in 2001, and 2002’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
He left this world on October 25, 2002, before the release of the third movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. After his demise, his role was taken over by Michael Gambon, who played the character in the remaining six Harry Potter films.
Robert Hardy
Robert Hardy was known for his role as Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic, in the franchise who was seen in four films from 2002-2007.
His character portrayal was widely appreciated by die-hard fans. Apart from the fantasy movie series, he has had a distinguished career thus, an important figure in the entertainment industry. He passed away on August 3, 2017.
Leslie Philips
Leslie Philips, who was the voice of Sorting Hat, the super famous magic hat that determined the houses of the students at Hogwarts died on November 7, 2022, at the age of 98. The veteran actor was confirmed to have passed on “peacefully in his sleep.” His wife, Zara Carr honored her husband by stating to The Sun,
“I’ve lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a truly great showman. He was quite simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went.”
