Arnold Schwarzenegger’s political journey has been as remarkable as his Hollywood career. After serving as the Governor of California from 2003 to 2011, he left an indelible mark on the state’s political landscape. Despite being a Republican in a predominantly Democratic state, Schwarzenegger implemented significant reforms in areas such as education, the environment, and fiscal policy.
He championed bipartisan collaboration and reached across party lines to achieve tangible results. Schwarzenegger’s charisma, combined with his unique life story as an immigrant turned action star turned politician, has made him a notable figure in American politics, continuing to influence public discourse even after leaving office. However, his dream for the presidency might never come true.
Why Can’t Arnold Schwarzenegger Run For President
Although Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in Austria, is ineligible to pursue the presidency, the iconic action star expresses his desire to do so in a recent interview with Chris Wallace. If given the opportunity, Schwarzenegger enthusiastically conveys his willingness to take on the role of the president.
In an episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Wallace poses a question to Schwarzenegger regarding presidential eligibility, referencing the constitutional requirement for the president to be a natural-born U.S. citizen. He wonders if, disregarding this constraint, Schwarzenegger would have pursued a presidential campaign.
Exclusively shared with PEOPLE, a special clip shows 75-year-old Schwarzenegger responding emphatically, “Well, yes, of course,” when asked about a particular topic.
“I mean, I think the field was wide open in 2016. And I think the field is open right now. I mean, think about it right now. I mean, who is there? There is really not a person that can bring everyone together,” Schwarzenegger continues. “Who is here today that people say okay, he’s not too old or he’s not too this or too that, or is that because it’s now a question about who do you vote against than who do you vote for.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Certain He’d Win If Given The Chance
After he arrived in the United States in 1968, Schwarzenegger embarked on a path of immigration, ultimately becoming a proud U.S. citizen in 1983. During the conversation, Wallace inquires about Schwarzenegger’s potential candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. Schwarzenegger confidently affirms his intention by responding with a resolute “Absolutely.”
“Put me in because it’s it looks — it’s a no-brainer. I see so clearly how I could win that election,” Schwarzenegger said.
While discussing his involvement in the new Netflix series Fubar and an upcoming documentary about his life, Schwarzenegger draws a parallel between the forthcoming 2024 presidential election and his victorious campaigns in the gubernatorial races of California in 2003 and 2006.
“I mean, it’s like me and California. And when that was, you know, running for governor, it was clear that people are looking for some new answer, not a right-wing or left wing, but someone that can bring the nation together,” he says.
Fubar is available for streaming on Netflix.
