Appearing in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Robert Pattinson caught the eye of most filmmakers who believed that he could go on to become a leading man. There is no question that he and Daniel Radcliffe have experienced sky-high fame early on in their lives. But according to Radcliffe, they both shared a similarity behind the camera too.
Starring alongside Radcliffe, Pattinson acquired a lot of professional experience. And the former couldn’t help himself and ended up comparing Pattinson’s breakthrough character to Harry Potter.
When Pattinson had to move away from Harry Potter after his character Cedric Diggory was given a fatal end, he picked up another book that propelled him into stardom.
Daniel Radcliffe Talks About His Harry Potter Enlightenment
In a conversation with Collider, Daniel Radcliffe explained how he realized the most important thing about his character and the fame that made him wiser.
“Whoever had been cast as Harry would have been receiving that attention. Anybody who would have been cast in this iconic role would have been getting that sort of attention. So you have to realize that it’s not because it’s you, it’s because it’s an iconic role. It’s interesting.”
Living an incredibly humble life, Daniel Radcliffe seemed to hold his friend Pattinson in high regard. He expressed that Pattinson had also gone through a similar awakening while they worked together and even after that.
Pattinson’s massive fame can be seen as a parallel to his co-star’s; and according to Radcliffe, he adjusted to that knowing that the character he played was above him.
Daniel Radcliffe Doesn’t Think Robert Pattinson Was More Important
Playing Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer’s fantasy novel Twilight, Robert Pattinson couldn’t impress his old friend Radcliffe. The five-part saga received a mixed reception from the audience.
Even though the franchise collected $3.3B globally, Daniel Radcliffe thought that audience cared about Edward Cullen more than the actor who played him.
“Before Robert had even been cast, he went to a reading of the book with Stephenie Meyer, and when Stephanie Myer said the name Edward Cullen, the audience went nuts and screaming,” Radcliffe explained. “And, you know, people were in love with that character.”
Nonetheless, Radcliffe believed that Pattinson’s fame didn’t get to his head as he realized early on that filling the character’s shoes had to be the major priority rather than his own handsome face.
Robert Pattinson will be next seen in a sci-fi drama Mickey 17, set for release on March 29, 2024.
