Ben Affleck is one of the most well-recognized and respected actors in Hollywood. He has starred in many massively successful projects, with Gone Girl, Air, Good Will Hunting, and Deep Water being some examples, as well as his work with the DC Universe as Batman in films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He has also won an Academy Award twice in his career, for his films, Argo and Good Will Hunting.
Hard-core fans of Affleck may remember a time before the actor had completely straight teeth. This change took place in his 1998 film Armageddon when the actor was asked to get his teeth fixed by a director who, in the past, forced actress Kate Beckinsale to lose weight.
Ben Affleck Was Forced To Get A New Set Of Teeth
Unfortunately, it has become quite common for actors to make massive physical changes to their bodies. From having to work out extensively, to having extreme diets, though it is common for actors to make changes to themselves, it is usually not permanent. This was not the case for Ben Affleck, who was made to permanently alter a part of his body by a director for the sake of a film.
For his 1998 film, Armageddon, director, Michael Bay asked the actor to get a complete new set of teeth. Affleck had to go through a number of dentist appointments, sitting in the doctor’s chair for eight hours a day for an entire week for this and the entire treatment cost the production around $20,000.
Ben Affleck’s Teeth Made Kate Beckinsale Feel Better About Her Own Situation
After this happened, Steve Buscemi, who was part of the cast of the film, stated that he would love to get this procedure too due to how good it looked. Unfortunately, however, Michael Bay told him not to. This treatment, however, stayed with Ben Affleck throughout his career and came up again when he was working alongside Kate Beckinsale in their 2001 film, Pearl Harbour.
“Ben [Affleck], who’d already done a movie with the director, was like, ‘This happened to me. They made me get new teeth,’ And I was like, ‘Cool, at least I get to hang on to my actual teeth.'”
During an interview with Women’s Health, the actress talked about how Bay had forced her to lose weight for the film. As a way to comfort her about this, Affleck told her about his teeth, which made the actress feel better about her own situation, stating that at least she still had her own teeth.
