From Software’s Armored Core 6 has made quite a sensation in the gaming industry after its release. The game reached 150k concurrent players on Steam on just day 1 of its release and became the fifth-biggest launch of 2023 on day 1 of its release. However, it has been reported that the game accidentally freezes and crashes on the PC at certain points. For example, it can happen when players are exploring the garage, playing the WallClimber mission, or even when they are in the menus.
From Software’s few games have faced similar issues, for example, Elden Ring sometimes crashed at launch on PC but they have kept a clean sheet overall. Yet these issues with AC6 could very well tarnish the company’s name. These crashes may have various reasons such as missing or corrupted game files, problems caused by EAC in the game’s functioning, lack of permissions, and even background application intervention issues.
There are some other issues that players can face such as the game not launching, easy Anti Cheat Error 30005, or Error 0xc0000005. However, these issues are easily fixable, and here’s how PC players can do it.

1. Run Armored Core 6 As An Administrator
One of the ways to fix these errors is to run the game as an administrator. This will bypass any restrictions on the PC and the game can easily use all the system resources as per its requirements and prevent any crashes or freezes and here is how to run Armored Core 6 as admin:
- Open Steam from the taskbar or search and launch it from the Windows Search.
- When Steam is launched, access the games library and go to Armored Core 6. After the game is located just right-click on the game and go to over manage, and then click on the Browse Local Files.
- Next up, Windows Explorer will be opened. Go to the folder called “Game,” and locate 2 main executable files. The first is “start_protected_game,” and the second is “armoredcore6.”
- Now right-click on the executable file and access its properties. When in the properties, go to the compatibility section and tick both Disable Fullscreen Optimizations and Run This Program As An Administrator.
2. Verify Armored Core 6 Game Files
Armored Core 6 may crash or freeze due to missing or corrupted game files. The game files are sometimes deleted or get corrupted due to an antivirus or if a third-party cleanup tool is installed. Players can easily verify their game files via Steam and download certain corrupted files to resolve this issue. Here is how to verify corrupted/missing AC6 files:
- Locate Armored Core 6 from the game library on Steam and right-click on it to access the properties.
- Go to the properties to check the installed files section and then click on the Verify Integrity of Game Files.
After this, Steam will look for corrupted and missing files and afterward will download those files again to replace them in the game’s install directory.

3. Replace the Protected Executable file with a Normal One
Armored Core 6 has 2 executable files and when the game is launched, the start_protected_game.exe file boots up. This is the Easy Anti Cheat executable file that checks the system for any software that can tamper with the launch and after it is completed, the Armoredcore6.exe is booted up. This can cause the game to randomly crash and here is how to skip over the EAC scan and launch the game directly.
- Go to the AC6 game directory by booting up Steam.
- Open Steam and find the game in the Game Library.
- Now, right-click on the game, go to Manage, and click on the Browse Local Files option.
- There will be a folder named “GAME,” open it and delete or backup the “start_protected_game.exe” executable file and make a copy of the Armoredcore6.exe.
- Rename this copy to “start_protected_game.exe” and exit to boot up the game.
4. Turn On V-Sync And Set the FPS Limit To 60
Players can also turn on V-Sync and set the FPS limit to 60 to prevent the game from crashing. There seems to be an issue with the game when there’s no, and it gets extended making the game very unstable that it then crashes. To turn on V-Sync and set the FPS limit, follow these steps:
- Open Armored Core 6 and from the title screen menu, go to System Settings and then to Graphics Settings.
- Just set the Limit Frame Rate to 60 and change VSync to On. Now, exit the game and start again.

5. Set Compatibility Mode For Both Executable Files
Players can also configure both the executable files that are in the installation folder and run them in compatibility mode. As the game has recently been released, it might have compatibility issues with Windows 11, causing it to crash. Follow these steps to fix:
- Go to the Armored Core 6 locally installed files and then the installation folder.
- Go to the “Game” folder and do this for both “Armoredcore6.exe” and “start_protected_game.exe:”
- Right-click on the executable file and access its properties. Go to compatibility from the properties.
- Just tick the “Run This Program In Compatibility Mode For” option and select Windows 8.
Next, click on OK and launch the game again.
6. Reduce the Maximum Clock Speed of The Processor
When the CPU frequency reaches 100%, it uses the boost turbo clock speed, giving a major boost to the game in performance and this turbo boost is rumored to crash the game. Follow these steps to disable the turbo boost feature in the CPU:
- Go to “Edit Power Plan” from the Windows search and click on advanced settings to go to another setting window.
- Go down until you see the option Processor Power Management and click on the + Icon to expand.
- In Processor Power Management, go into the Maximum Processor State and turn all the options to 95% which will not initiate the turbo boost hence preventing the game from crashing.
7. End All Background Processes
Most of the time several processes are running on the PC and these are important for the Windows’s operation but some are just extras that have no use and hogg the system resources. These processes can cause the game to freeze up and crash. Follow these steps to end all unnecessary tasks.
For Active Applications:
- Open Task Manager where there will be several active processes.
- Check on the tabs above to see what system resource a process is using the most and end the task.
- Repeat this step and end all the unnecessary tasks that are not required.
For Auto Starting Application:
- Go to the auto-starting applications and identify the unnecessary applications.
- Right-click on these applications and select Disable.
- Repeat this process and disable all the necessary applications from auto-starting.
For Services:
- Open up Windows Search and search “System Config.” Now open the System Configuration, and go to the Services tab.
- Tick the box that says “Hide All Microsoft Services” and avoid disabling any service that’s important for Windows.
- Check the list of applications, disable those that are unnecessarily running in the background, and click OK.
