PlayStation’s rival, Xbox released Starfield on 6 September 2023. Starfield was destined to be one of the best games of 2023 and a potential contender for the “Game of the Year” title. The producers did a very good job of creating awareness about the game for a long time. Many new things were added. Bethesda left no stone unturned during the making of Starfield. With more than 1,000 planets to discover, it was going to be the biggest open-world video game.
Todd Howard branded Starfield as a modder’s paradise as they could create mods to their wish. But all this hype could not save Starfield from the PlayStation fans. The console wars have found their next victim – Starfield. Starfield being an Xbox exclusive has led to such situations. The PlayStation fans are fearing of missing out.
PlayStation Fans Create Trouble For Starfield
Starfield is a Microsoft video game, meaning it will only be available on Xbox or PC. PlayStation users cannot play the game. If they want to, then they opt for either an Xbox or a PC. This has led to a cold war between PlayStation fans vs. the Xbox fans. Starfield received fair reviews before its release. Steam gave it a solid 9 out of 10. But Metacritic was the opposite of it.
Starfield has a rating of 5.5 out of 10 on Metacritic. Starfield fans were confused by this. But later, it was found out that the PlayStation fans had something to do with it. Most of them gave Starfield zero ratings, which led to a lower rating. There was so much hype surrounding the game that it bothered them. PlayStation had many good video games, but they still felt that they should get a taste of Starfield.
But this was not possible on PlayStation. So, they gave low ratings to make the game less popular. Often, people refer to Metacritic before buying a video game. The low rating will make the buyer not choose Starfield. Few of them did not even play Starfield, yet they gave it a zero rating because it is a Microsoft game. That is brutal from the PlayStation fans. Constant loading screen, poor optimization, dull plot, etc., are a few of the reasons that PS fans used to justify their cause.

PlayStation vs. Xbox
Before the Starfield saga, Xbox fans also did the same with The Last of Us Part 2. The Last of Us Part 2 was released three years back. Even though it was the “Game of the Year”, it has a Metacritic review of 5.8. Some can say that this is payback for The Last of Us Part 2. Both consoles have had several exclusive games since they first came out. But it was PlayStation who undid the exclusiveness from several of their games.
God of War (2018), Horizon Zero Dawn, and Marvel’s Spider-Man were PlayStation exclusive, yet they were made available for the PC. This was a good gesture by PlayStation, who prioritized the gaming community instead of the console war. They were the better man. But Xbox fans started the fire with The Last of Us Part 2. Starfield is the reply that PlayStation fans gave them.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a month away from its release. The Xbox fans are surely preparing to lash out at it. But before they do that, they must think that the last one was made available for PC. If they give bad ratings, they themselves will suffer loss from it. On the other hand, they want to keep the console war going on.
Whatever is done is done. Xbox should now focus on themselves. Starfield is performing well. If they add gasoline to the fire, PlayStation fans will not leave them. But at the end of the day, Starfield is a great game. Anyone who won’t play it will regret it. So it is true – PS fans are having FOMO with Starfield being Xbox Exclusive.
