George Miller’s Mad Max franchise is undoubtedly one of the most successful film franchises in the world. It has been around for a long time now, however, 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, popularized the franchise among the new generation.
A spin-off movie, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, is currently in the works surrounding the life of Imperator Furiosa, who was first introduced in Mad Max: Fury Road. Taylor-Joy, who will play the main character, talked about working on the movie. The movie, titled Furiosa, also features Chris Hemsworth, who is playing the role of Dr. Dementus. Furiosa is all set to release in 2024.
Anya Taylor-Joy talked about working in Furiosa
In late 2022, actress Anya Taylor-Joy wrapped up the filming of George Miller’s Furiosa. The actress told Hollywood Reporter that the experience was “life-changing” for her,
“It will take me two full years before the movie comes out to even begin to process to digest what I just left 12 days ago. [Furiosa] was the most life-changing experience I’ve ever had, with such talented artists. I really felt like I grew up so much, but yes, it’s wild. It’s utterly unique.”
In 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, Imperator Furiosa is introduced as a war captain under Immortan Joe, but she turns against him in order to free “The Five Wives.”
This was the longest shoot in Anya Taylor-Joy’s career
The actress further explained that this was the longest shoot in her career, however, she enjoyed portraying the character. She said,
“Longest shoot I’ve ever done, for sure, but with the most unbelievable crew, and I mean, what a character. I had her. We had each other.”
In 2020, when it was announced that Anya Taylor-Joy will play Furiosa, it sparked a lot of debates on social media because Charlize Theron’s portrayal was outstanding and fans wanted to see her return. Sources claim that the movie is about a “young Furiosa” so they decided to cast Anya Taylor-Joy.
The movie also features Chris Hemsworth
Unlike Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy had better chemistry on the sets. Hemsworth, who plays a key role in the movie, recently created hype for the movie,
“It’s massive and otherworldly and everything you’d expect from the Mad Max world. [Miller] has managed to do something unexpected, which has blown me away.”
Furiosa is currently scheduled for release on 24 May 2024. It is set before the events of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
