Mental health problems have always been one of the most pressing issues to ever exist, even though proper focus and cure for them have only been initiated recently. But like every normal person, even the best of the best celebrities fall victim to the dreadful diseases of anxiety and depression, and Grant Gustin, most famous for his role in The Flash was no exception to this.
Although he portrays the ever-cheerful and utterly optimistic character of Barry Allen in the superhit series from the DC television universe, his real life wasn’t so happy-go-lucky for him, considering his claim of having anxiety ever-present in his life.
Grant Gustin Has Been A Victim Of Mental Health Problems For A Long Time
Everybody loves Grant Gustin for playing one of the most positive heroes from the DC television universe, namely: Barry Allen aka the Flash. But while he is thoroughly cheerful on-screen, his off-screen life hasn’t been one without mental health issues.
Appearing on the Inside of You podcast, The Crisis of Infinite Earths star explained how he used to have “weird, anxious-type [of] dreams” even as a child. Not only this but when he went to couple’s therapy with his wife Andrea Thoma before tying the knot with her in 2018, he experienced personal issues then as well.
“I knew I had always dealt with anxiety, but getting pinpointed ideas about where things started and why you were feeling that way,” Grant said. “Anxiety is ever-present in my life, for sure.”
Grant Gustin Finally Figured Out The Reason Behind His Ever-Persisting Anxiety
After much introspection, Grant Gustin finally came to the realization that many of his anxiety and depression-related problems had stemmed from his inappropriate way of pressuring himself to be perfect. Sharing on the Inside of You podcast, he disclosed how he has lately been trying to fix the problem in a healthy way.
“I’ve come a long way with taking a little pressure off myself. I’ve always been really hard on myself and I still am, but I put way too much pressure on myself early on and got in my way a lot,” Gustin said. “It gets in your way for sure.”
