Ant-Man 3 Reportedly Bringing Back Corey Stoll As Villain

After the glorious fifth episode of Loki dropped an overwhelming number of easter eggs for fans to ponder over for weeks to come, a fan-favorite villain might be making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the latest episode titled Journey into Mystery, a few easter eggs stood out like the silly Thanosocopter or the exciting Kang the Conqueror references that seem to be now a running theme for Phase Four of MCU. However, for eagle-eyed fans, a particular easter egg has brewed up quite a storm for the future of MCU, more specifically, the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Yellowjacket Ant-Man

In the latest episode of Loki, when the God of Mischief finds himself in the Void after getting pruned by Judge Ravonna Renslayer, he encounters numerous variants of himself, including Richard E. Grant’s Classic Loki, the post-apocalyptic world surrounding him is filled with grim remnants of a few memorable MCU characters. One of them is a giant, damaged helmet of Yellowjacket, the main antagonist of Ant-Man (2015). While this might seem just another easter egg, it is being reported that the villain will be returning for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Into the Quantumania. With Jonathan Majors confirmed to play Kang the Conqueror in the movie, this easter eggs doesn’t seem to be a mere coincidence.

Earlier in May, Evangeline Lilly had slipped up that Corey Stoll would be returning for the sequel. In the latest Vanity Fair podcast, senior writer Joanna Robinson has also stated that Stoll would be reprising his role as Yellowjacket in some capacity in Quantumania while discussing the latest Loki episode.

“There’s a Yellowjacket helmet. This large version of the helmet that I suppose Corey Stoll wore in Ant-Man and the only reason that is super interesting to me is because there’s a theory going around that all of the TVA stuff is taking place in the Quantum Realm because it’s a place out of time.”

“I don’t know if that’s an indication of something to come, but do know that Corey Stoll, in some shape, will be back for Ant-Man 3.”

In the latest episode, the Void, for now, seems to be the dump yard for all variants pruned by the TVA which implies that a variant of Darren Cross was seemingly pruned. However, the variant tried to fight off Alioth, only to meet the same fate that befell the Classic Loki, leaving a damaged helmet behind.

While Darren Cross was shown to meet his demise in Ant-Man by getting squished, it won’t be a surprise if he found a way to fake his death and enter the Quantum Realm, much like Janet Van Dyne. Whatever the reason maybe, it would surely be interesting to see Corey Stoll reprising the megalomaniac Yellowjacket once again.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently scheduled to release in theaters on February 17, 2023.
