Andy Serkis’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage had a lot of mixed reactions from the fans. While many hoped to see more violence, others were content with the movie that was presented to them. While Tom Hardy did an incredible job portraying both Venom and Eddie Brock, fans wanted to see a lot more of Carnage.
The divided fans found themselves even more eager to see what the upcoming third movie would offer. Especially now that Eddie and Venom know about other universes and even with the fact that Venom left a bit of symbiote behind. However, Fans have been blaming Andy Serkis for the sequel being rather underwhelming. More so, they want to see more of Carnage’s wrath.
Andy Serkis Wanted There To Be Minimal Violence In Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Andy Serkis’s vision for Venom: Let There Be Carnage was quite different from what the fans wanted to see. While fans wanted to see Carnage go absolutely ham on anyone he saw, Serkis saw that as unnecessary violence. There was even a concept clip that never got filmed. It showed Woody Allen’s Carnage not having a bias towards the inmates and ripping everyone who he could set his eyes on.
It was Serkis’s decision to not have as much violence. According to him, it had been over the top and unnecessary. That was not how fans saw it. In their opinion, violence was exactly what the movie needed the most. Seeing Carnage embrace his reputation as a ruthless killing machine was the film was missing majorly. The villain is primarily known for just how maniacal he is with regard to his hunger to kill. Even his name translates to killing. However, the movie lacked what could easily be defined as the essence of Carnage as an antagonist.
Fans Blame Andy Serkis For Choosing Lesser Violence
The advantage of an R-rated movie is that one can go all out whether it comes to the swearing or violence. When having a villain like Carnage, it is important to take into consideration just how massive of an influence he has on fans. Seeing their favorite villain like that, fans found Carnage to be upsettingly underwhelming.
What they wanted to see was a relationship between Eddie and Venom balanced by the wrath caused by Carnage. His chaos is what drove the audience towards the movie. However, the lack thereof pushed them away from it. A lot of the blame is being given to Andy Serkis and the direction he took the movie to.
