The Challenging Nature Of Shooting With Henry Cavill
While it’s disheartening to know that Henry Cavill announced his exit from the Netflix show, The Witcher, it is important to address the actor’s utmost dedication to the epic project. Playing Geralt of Rivia for three well-received seasons, Cavill handed over his responsibility to Liam Hemsworth.
Thus, following Henry Cavill‘s exit announcement, director Marc Jobst shared his honest opinion on the challenging nature of shooting with the DC actor. Speaking exclusively with Screenrant, Jobst discussed the actor’s utmost dedication and highlighted his work ethic that yielded outstanding results.
“Well, look, Henry has done three series, these are demanding shows to make, you know, they are huge. Henry does every single beat of his stunts, he won’t even allow a hand, if you’re doing a close up of a hand grabbing a sword, it has to be his hand.” Marc Jobst shared.
Discussing how Cavill refused to use a stunt double, the director recalled, “Henry won’t do that, and as a result of that, the results are extraordinary.” Praising the actor even further, Jobst stated, “you’re working with an incredible athlete, first and foremost, who works out hours before, and hours after, you’ve been shooting for 12 hours, and who cares deeply about the work that he does.”
Marc Jobst’s Experience Of Working With Henry Cavill
Appreciating Henry Cavill’s dedication towards the project for three incredible seasons that gained immense popularity and owned a massive viewership, Marc Jobst discussed his experience of working with the actor. “I came in on the first season, and we were shooting in four different countries. That’s taking the whole entourage into different places, learning the stunts, rehearsing the stunts.” Jobst began.
Recalling how the show is filled with sword fight scenes, the director mentioned how Cavill did each one of them, all by himself. “When we were shooting the swordfight…that’s a big one-shot sequence, and they’re heavy swords. They’re not sharp, but they’re heavy, so if you get them wrong, you can seriously damage somebody.” Jobst shared.
However, with weeks of practice and regular rehearsing, Henry Cavill delivered an unprecedented performance in the Netflix series. Thus, speaking about the tiresome task of practicing and shooting, the director mentioned realizing Henry Cavill’s overwhelming feeling. “That’s draining on your number one, so after three series, I feel, ‘Okay, he’s brought the show into being, and if he feels like he’s done what he can, I trust him.’” Jobst shared.
Therefore offering closure to Henry Cavill, director Marc Jobst mentioned agreeing with the actor’s decision to exit the show.
