If someone were to troll Christian Bale’s acting now, they would be met with a highly confused audience. The actor has proved time and time again as to just how incredible of an actor he really is. His roles are just as mesmerizing as his personality. With the performances he has given, no one can even doubt just how good he is when he stands in front of the camera.
He has a roster full of iconic roles. Whether it is Gorr the God Butcher, Patrick Bateman, or Bruce Wayne; there is no surprise when it comes to him giving powerful performances. However, he had to prove himself before everyone started putting him on top of a pedestal. Especially to the cast of American Psycho who refused to believe that he was anything but a bad actor.
Christian Bale Had To Prove Himself To His Co-Stars
Christian Bale is one of the most famous actors with basically everyone respecting his work. It was the movie that brought him the utmost fame that also made his co-stars doubtful. Seeing that he is an actor who believes in method acting, not many people were familiar with it nor did they appreciate it.
“He informed me that all of the other actors thought that I was the worst actor they’d ever seen. He was telling me they kept looking at me and talking about me, saying, ‘Why did Mary fight for this guy? He’s terrible.’ And it wasn’t until he saw the film that he changed his mind. And I was in the dark completely about that critique”.
He was highly unaware of just what his co-stars actually thought of him. They had a perspective of him that was purely negative, making them wonder about how bad of an actor he really is. Josh Lucas told Bale about these thoughts much later in their lives and he was extremely surprised by it.
Christian Bale Shocked Everyone With His Performance
Christian Bale made everyone zip their lips the moment the cast saw American Psycho, they were all heavily surprised by his performance and it was enough to prove them otherwise.
“Working with Christian was pretty hard because I didn’t know this whole Method thing. I was pretty fresh. I hadn’t done that many films before, and that an actor would lose himself to such a degree and was so consumed by the part, I was having a hard time kind of… just wanting to socialize with him, but feeling that he didn’t, and then my ego being like, Does he not like me? Does he think I’m a terrible actress?”
No one questioned Christian Bale after they saw the hit movie. Although method acting isn’t common, neither is it very welcomed by many actors. Some actors manage to execute it incredibly, and Bale stands strong with that example. What he managed with the movie made it clear that there was no other actor who would ever be better than him for the role of Patrick Bateman.
