In a thrilling revelation, Warner Bros.’s highly anticipated superhero film The Flash is set to bring back more than just Michael Keaton as Batman. Director Andy Muschietti disclosed in an interview with Esquire Middle East that none other than Nicolas Cage will make a cameo appearance as Superman in the movie. Does this mean no more Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel?
Although a bit unexpected, this development marks a significant nostalgic moment for both fans and Cage himself, who was originally cast as the Man of Steel in Tim Burton’s ill-fated Superman Lives back in 1998.
Apart from the character of Superman, the franchise also boasts a female Supergirl. Portrayed by Sasha Calle in the upcoming movie The Flash. Having received her seal of approval from the current Superman Henry Cavill, Calle shares a glimpse of her private conversation with him.
When Supergirl received her stamp of approval from Superman
During her conversation with EW, Sasha Calle revealed the details of her conversation with Man of Steel Henry Cavill. Clearly a huge fan of the actor, Calle recalled her encounter with Cavill and said,
“I met him actually after the movie was done, months later. I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience.”
Furthermore, the Final Stop actress revealed that she was excited to get Cavill’s feedback on her portrayal of Supergirl. She added,
“I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve? And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel.”
It’s great to see Calle get the appreciation she hoped for. However, just like The Flash actress, not many could imagine the Superman series without Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.
Henry Cavill opens up on his return rumors
Having assumed the role of Superman in DC movies like 2013’s Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Justice League, and 2022’s Black Adam, fans were eagerly waiting for Henry Cavill to reprise the role in The Flash.
However, after initially announcing the news of his return, Cavill broke the hearts of his fans when he shared that he would not be coming back as Superman.
With the new DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran heralding new plans for the superhero, there was news that Gunn is penning a new Superman, set in his younger days. Breaking the news in an Instagram post, Cavill wrote,
“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”
However, Gunn teased the audience by claiming that Cavill would be returning to the DC universe in some another way. But no information regarding the same has been made public yet. Meanwhile, rumors of Henry Cavill making his Marvel debut have also surfaced, though no official statement regarding the same is available yet.
