Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson marked his debut in the DC Universe with Jaume Collet-Serra’s directorial, Black Adam. The movie raked in approximately $390 million at the box office. As the DCU expands, more characters are being developed and given greater depth.
With an increasing number of crossovers between The Justice League and Suicide Squad, it was only a matter of time before DC saw the potential for a Black Adam-Flash crossover. However, things went differently than planned because Johnson turned down the opportunity.
Why Did Dwayne Johnson Turn Down The Cameo?
Reports suggest that Dwayne Johnson declined all offers to make a cameo in The Flash, which features Ezra Miller in the lead role. While this marks Miller’s first solo outing as the DCU hero, it appears Johnson might not be joining him on screen.
Since Black Adam debuted in the DC Universe, many fans have been anticipating the antihero’s appearance in other DC projects. Such a prospect is unlikely to materialize anytime soon. Johnson also refused to reprise his role in Shazam! Fury of Gods.
Dwayne Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks Production, reportedly “politely refused” to make a cameo appearance in The Flash. The decision was said to be made by Hiram Garcia, Seven Bucks CEO, who does not want the actor to participate in cameo appearances.
Does Black Adam Have A Future In DCU?
Given Johnson’s refusal to take on roles in other DCU films and Black Adam‘s collection falling short of expectations, it seems highly unlikely that the character has a viable future in the DCU. Johnson took to Twitter for a Black Adam update.
Allegedly, Johnson has declined the offer of two DCU cameos due to his strained rapport with Warner Bros. Moreover, following the announcement, Johnson also unfollowed Black Adam‘s and Warner Bros’ Instagram accounts.

Will The Rock Ever Collaborate With Warner Bros?
The prospect of a follow-up film featuring Johnson remains uncertain, leaving fans in suspense. In the meantime, they can enjoy Black Adam on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video as they eagerly await updates regarding the continuation of Johnson’s role.
The film came out in October 2022 and struggled during its theatrical run, managing to accumulate just $390 million, a figure relatively low for a film with a $195 million budget. Besides, the film had a marketing budget of $80 million.
With his massive stardom in Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appears to be increasingly selective in his choice of projects. This trend could raise concerns for the future of the DC Extended Universe. The status of his character’s place in the DCU remains a significant question mark, which will hopefully be resolved in due course.
