With the way The Flash has become one of the most wildly anticipated films of this year, you’d think DC Studios would be hell-bent on fortifying its priced possession against any potential risks like leaks. But turns out, the director himself is sprinkling spoilers in the air like it’s mere fairy dust.
First, Andy Muschietti dropped a massive hint at Reverse Flash’s possible appearance in the film, and now, he’s revealed yet another major plot detail about the upcoming superhero adventure.
Spoiler Alert! The following article contains spoilers for The Flash.
The Flash – Andy Muschietti Reveals Major Superman Cameo
Not too long ago, there was some chatter about how Nicolas Cage would be donning the cape of the Man of Steel in the forthcoming Ezra-Miller led film. And it looks like the rumors were true.
Andy Muschietti, who has helmed The Flash, just spoiled Cage’s cameo as Superman in the film.
Speaking with Esquire Middle East, Muschietti not only confirmed the rumor but also went ahead to acknowledge the Oscar winner’s take over the role. “Nic was absolutely wonderful,” the director said. “Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it.”
Cage had once been slated to step in the mighty shoes of Clark Kent nearly three decades ago in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives, which unfortunately enough, never hit the big screens. But thanks to the It director, Cage, who also happens to be “a massive Superman fan,” was able to put on the coveted cape of the Kryptonian superhero after all these years. At the same time, collaborating with the Renfield star was also a dream come true for the Argentine filmmaker. “I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon,” the 49-year-old added.
As far as the film itself is concerned, why Muschietti would drop such a massive bomb on the audience just weeks before the film’s release, is lost on us. Whether he’s unearthing these plot details deliberately owing to some calculated plan or if it’s an accidental slip-up, nobody can tell. But what we do know, is that Cage’s Superman will only be limited to this one cameo in The Flash.
Nicolas Cage as Superman – What Does It Mean for the DCU?
While the Ghost Rider star might be appearing in Miller’s upcoming venture as Superman, he won’t be representing the superhero indefinitely. In other words, Cage is not the replacement for Henry Cavill‘s Clark Kent.

In light of the numerous refurbishments that James Gunn and Peter Safran carried out in DC Studios after taking over the franchise, Cavill was disengaged from Superman’s role, leaving the position vacant. While Gunn did mention bringing on board a younger actor for the character, there haven’t been any updates on who the title will be going to next, save for a rumor or two.
Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will reveal the new face of DC’s Superman.
The Flash opens in cinemas on June 16, 2023.
