Thirteen years after the initial installment (Insidious) of this horror series was released, Insidious: The Red Door (2023) will likely mark the end of the Insidious franchise. The Conjuring and Aquaman star, Patrick Wilson, who plays the title character in this latest supernatural horror film, makes his feature film directorial debut.
Patrick Wilson, the director, and star of Insidious: The Red Door, even confirmed that this upcoming film will probably mark his final appearance in the well-known horror series. The actor/director recently told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that he does not have any plans to continue the Insidious series after The Red Door.
Well, in The Red Door, the supposedly final episode of the series, many members of the original cast—including Wilson and Ty Simpkins—will appear to wrap up the story of the Lambert family.
Major Horror Franchise Starring Aquaman Star Is Taking a Break?
According to Discussing Film, Jason Blum, the head of Blumhouse, advised fans of the series to see Insidious: The Red Door in theaters because it might be some time before a new installment will release. To quote him:
“You better see this Insidious, it’s the last one! To give a more serious answer, [The Red Door] is going to be the last we’re going to see of Insidious for a while. It may not be a forever rest, but it’s certainly going to be a very long rest. So, if someone comes up with some idea in 10 years, who knows? But there’s not a plan – as there has been with every prior Insidious movie – there’s no current plan in place for number six.”
Fans will not be completely left in the dark, despite the possibility that a sixth Insidious movie will not be made. This is because Blumhouse announced in May 2023 that Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight’s author) was attached to write and direct an upcoming horror film, titled Thread.
The studio also disclosed that although the story will take place in the same fictional world as Insidious, the first five chapters’ story will not be repeated. Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani will reportedly play a married couple, who would use a powerful spell to travel back in time to save their young daughter.
Patrick Wilson To Say Goodbye to the Franchise?
The upcoming movie, Insidious: The Red Door, is likely to be Patrick Wilson’s final outing in the well-known horror franchise. The 50-year-old actor said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he has no plans to continue the Insidious series after his upcoming release, The Red Door.
When asked if he would play Josh Lambert in the future, he stated:
“Well, the quick answer is yes. But I will say, and this is probably not the best way to sell a movie, but it would be cool if way down the line, if Insidious was like the Boyhood of horror movies. Ty could do these movies for a long time. I think that’s really exciting as a filmmaker to do that and think it’s exciting for an audience to see that. I’m sure it’s exciting for a studio because the IP doesn’t go away for a studio. But Josh and Renai? Speaking on behalf of Rose [Byrne], no. I think we close our door.”
Insidious: The Red Door will release in theaters on July 7. Meanwhile, his Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive in theaters on 20 December 2023.
