Activision Blizzard has found itself in some hot water recently. The ongoing trial between the FTC and Microsoft is all because of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. But that hasn’t stopped its publishing plans, as it has just announced its future plans for the upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.
Call of Duty: Warzone has become a staple of the franchise. It’s only been three years since its release, but already it’s hard to picture CoD without it. Activision has definitely taken its popularity into account and plans to expand it even further. Just last year, it released Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, and now they’ve revealed the release date for Warzone Mobile.

The Official Release of Activision’s Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick took the stand during the trial on Wednesday, and revealed that Warzone Mobile will officially release in the fall of 2023. Currently, the game only has a Limited Release, where it is only available in some locations. But now we have a concrete release window. The game will be free-to-play and will feature cross-progression with Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2.
Warzone Mobile was revealed all the way back in March 2022, with the Limited Release made available to the public in November 2022. This requires pre-registration in order to play. This wouldn’t be the first time CoD has dipped its toes into the mobile market. Call of Duty: Mobile was released in 2019, and it also garnered quite a lot of attention. However, with this release, it seems that Activision is going all out.
Development of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile
As previously mentioned, the game still requires pre-registration to play. But there are some important details to remember about this upcoming title. It is being built from the ground up, and is being developed in-house. The team behind this one is massive, as it will include Solid State Studios, Digital Legends, Beenox, Activision Shanghai, and Demonware.
The previously released Call of Duty: Mobile was actually developed by Chinese developer Tencent. Considering the sheer magnitude of the team, it really seems that Activision is going all out with this. Warzone is already a huge success, and if this mobile version succeeds in garnering traffic, it could become the next big thing.
How will CoD: Warzone Mobile Actually Play
The experience will be similar to what you’ve come to expect from Warzone, albeit on a mobile device. 120 players will jump in and fight to survive as the map gradually gets smaller and smaller. Many elements of the game will have cross-progression with Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2, such as operators, weapons, and even the Battle Pass.
Players will be able to keep in touch with their friends, as friend lists and chat channels will also be shared across the three games. Despite the cross-progression, players will not be allowed to cross-play with players on other platforms. This seems like a necessity, as players on consoles and PCs would have an unfair advantage over mobile players.

What Platforms will Warzone Mobile Release On
Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will release on Android and iOS devices. As previously mentioned, the game will release sometime during the fall of this year, but you can still pre-register if you want an early taste of what the game will offer on release.
We are still waiting for a concrete release date for the game. Activision has yet to reveal it, but you can expect it in a few months as we slowly approach Fall.
