It all began in November 2019 during an interview with Vanity Fair. The pop star Billie Eilish revealed that Drake was one of the most well-known contacts on her phone and that, despite never having met in person, they have texted frequently.
On Twitter, this revelation instantly sparked a debate that left users split. No matter the context, some people found it quite creepy that an adult man was texting a teenage girl. At that time, Drake was 33 years old, while Eilish was just 18.
Billie Eilish Defended Drake
Fans began criticizing the Canadian rapper, as soon as the now 21 -year-old pop sensation claimed that Drake had been texting her, who is 15 years older than her. However, the Bad Guy singer came to defend her friendship with Drake in a new interview with Vogue.
“The internet is such a stupid-a– mess right now. Everybody’s so sensitive. A grown man can’t be a fan of an artist?” Eilish said to Vogue.
She then added:
“There are so many people that the internet should be more worried about. Like, you’re really going to say that Drake is creepy because he’s a fan of mine, and then you’re going to go vote for Trump? What the f*ck is that shit?”
For his part, Drake has not commented on the texting controversy.
What Billie Eilish Has to Say About Drake?
People may tag Drake as “creepy” for his actions, but Billie Eilish has nice things to say about the rapper. During her interview with Vanity Fair, Eilish said:
“Drake is, like, the nicest dude I’ve ever spoken to. I mean, I’ve only, like, texted him, but he’s so nice. Like, he does not need to be nice, you know what I mean? He’s at a level in his life where he doesn’t need to be nice, but he is, you know?”
In 2018, Drake was also criticized after it was revealed that he regularly texted “I miss you” to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown when she was just 14. However, Brown said to that criticism:
“We just texted each other the other day, and he was like, ‘I miss you so much,’ and I was like, ‘I miss you more.'”
Despite these entire defenses by the two young stars, fans have their genuine concern for them as they think the rapper could be engaging in grooming practices.
