Just a few hours ago the annual Golden Globes were held with many critically acclaimed movies and tv shows winning awards. The night was filled with many surprising winners such as Hildur Gudnadóttir for best original score and Brad Pitt for best-supporting actor.
Some winners, of course, were to be expected such as Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and Sam Mendes for 1917. Since the Golden Globes carried many more other categories, the full list is presented below.
Best Motion Picture – Drama
Sam Mendes’s one-shot 1917 won for best drama against Joker, The Irishman, Marriage Story, and The Two Popes.
Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy
Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt won this year. The film was against Jojo Rabbit, Dolemite is My Name, Knives Out, and Rocketman.
Best Director – Motion Picture
Sam Mendes grabbed the award for best director this year. He was up against Todd Phillps, Martin Scorsese, Bong Joon Ho, and Quentin Tarantino.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
Renée Zellweger won for her film Judy. She was against Scarlet Johansson, Saoirse Ronan, Charlize Theron, and Cynthia Erivo.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
The actor Joaquin Phoenix won for his film acclaimed film Joker. He was against Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Christian Bale, and Antonio Banderas.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy
Taron Egerton won for his film Rocketman. The actor was going against Daniel Craig, Leonardo Dicaprio, Eddie Murphy, and Roman Griffin Davis.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy
Awkwafina bagged her Golden Globe for her film The Farewell. She was against Cate Blanchett, Ana De Armas, Emma Thompson, and Beanie Feldstein.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture
Laura Dern won her Golden Globe for her film Marriage Story. She was against Kathy Bates, Margot Robbie, Anette Bening, and Jennifer Lopez.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture
Brad Pitt won a Globe for his role as Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He was against two actors from The Irishman – Al Pacino and Joe Pesci – as well as Tom Hanks and Anthony Hopkins.
Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
Quentin Tarantino won for his film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He was against Noah Baumbach, Anthony McCarten, Steven Zaillian, and Bong Joon Ho and Jin Won Han.
Best Foreign-Language Film
The film Parasite by Bong Joon Ho won for best foreign-language film. It was up against films like Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Les Misérables, The Farewell and Pain and Glory.
Best Animated Feature Film
The Golden Globe went to the film Missing Link which beat Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
Best Original Song – Motion Picture
The award went to Elton John’s song I’m Gonna Love Me Again. The song beat Beautiful Ghosts, Spirit, Into the Unknown, and Standup.
Best Original Score – Motion Picture
The best original score went to Hildur Gudnadóttir who scored the film Joker. She beat out Alexandre Desplat, Thomas Newman, Randy Newman, and Daniel Pemberton
Best Television Series – Drama
For best drama television series, HBO’s Succession won out against nominees’s such as The Crown, Killing Eve, The Morning Show, and Big Little Lies. The show also received a second award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama.
Best Television Series – Comedy/Musical
The Amazon Original Fleabag won against nominees such as Barry, The Kominsky Method, The Politician, and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. The show also won for Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy as well.
Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
The hit HBO show Chernobyl starring Jared Harris won this award. Chernobyl was against Catch 22, The Loudest Voice, Fosse/Verdon and Unbelievable. It also won for Best-Supporting Actor in a Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy/Musical
Phoebe Waller-Bridge bagged the Golden Globe for Fleabag against Christina Applegate, Kirsten Dunst, Natasha Lyonne, and Rachel Brosnahan.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy/Musical
The Golden Globe was given to Ramy Youssef and he was against actors such as Micheal Douglas, Paul Rudd, Bill Vader, and Ben Platt.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
The Succession actor Brian Cox was given the award against the nominees of Kit Harrington, Rami Malek, Tobias Menzies, and Billy Porter.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama
The actress Olivia Colman won against two actresses from The Morning Show, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, as well as Jodie Comer and Nicole Kidman.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Stellan Skarsgård won for his role in Chernobyl against the actors Alan Arkin, Kieran Culkin, Andrew Scott, and Henry Wrinkler.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Patricia Arquette won for her role in The Act. She was against actresses such as Meryl Streep, Helena Bonham Carter, Toni Collete, and Emily Watson.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Russel Crowe won for his role in The Loudest Voice. Crowe was against actors such as Jared Harris, Sam Rockwell, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Christopher Abbot.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Michelle Williams won for her work in Fosse/Verdon. She was against Helen Mirren, Joey King, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever.
