“Waking up in Mexico to the news that [Zack] Snyder wants to see it too, a director that I respect so much, that his films are an immense influence… Even in ‘Blue Beetle,’ there are some references to ‘Man of Steel’ that we made out of honor and respect for the work and art of Zack Snyder. Also, seeing David Ayer sharing it… It’s like, ‘WOW, brother!’ How nice it feels to have that support from people that one respects and that the fans also respect.”

While some people might be concerned that mentioning Man of Steel could make Blue Beetle feel burdened with extra stuff, there’s actually a lot of excitement about what this could mean. It’s possible that the character could become even more important in the bigger picture of the franchise. While James Gunn and Peter Safran now contributing their own stories to the DC Universe, Blue Beetle kind of represents a link to the past creative team brewing new rivalries and escorts.

The hat-tip to Zack Snyder isn’t just a fancy symbol—it’s a full-on celebration of the electric energy and creativity that bind storytellers across the vast DC Universe. However, there is no confirmed comment against Gunn in particular. It is more so a respectful nod at Snyder than anything else.
