To quench our thirst and curiosity, a Marvel executive teased the future of Eros within the cinematic franchise. Many have long wondered whether the cameo was merely a “stunt” with no place or hope for the character’s future within the narrative. However, Nate Moore, who worked on Eternals as a producer, has stated that there would be further stories featuring Thanos’ brother. It’s only a waiting game now.
Marvel Executive Addressed Harry Styles’ Future In The MCU
Appearing on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Nate Moore was questioned about the renowned singer’s involvement in the franchise. Host Anthony D’Alessandro wondered whether or not his inclusion in the mid-credits scene was a “stunt.” To this, the Vice President of Production and Development at Marvel Studios answered the following:
“No, we certainly didn’t cast Harry for a tag. And a character [that] maybe I have too much affection for, ’cause he’s had some problematic runs in publishing, but…”
He went on to explain Eternals director Chloé Zhao‘s admiration for the Don’t Worry Darling star. “Chloé Zhao is a giant Harry Styles fan,” affirmed Moore. The producer frequently pushed for Eros’ integration into the narrative, and Zhao was dead set on having Harry Styles play the part. Following was his statement:
“I’d always pitch like, ‘Eros, he’s really cool.’ And she’s [Zhao] like, ‘It’s Harry Styles.’ And I was like, ‘Are you sure?’ And she was obsessed, and chased him down, and got him into the movie.”
Moore hinted at what to expect from the highly anticipated character’s return by musing on Starfox’s connection to Thanos. Many fans have also suggested that Eros’ abilities and powers may play a crucial part in the Avengers’ involvement in the Multiverse Saga.
Starfox’s History And Powers Makes His MCU Return Possible
Nate Moore further delved into the intriguing nature of Starfox/Eros. Shedding light on his comic book origin, the producer highlighted the character’s powers and his fascinating connection with Thanos, the alien warlord from Titan. He had the following to share about the character’s upcoming journey in the MCU:
“There are more stories to be told with that character. He’s fascinating. He has a really interesting connection with Thanos — they’re half-brothers, and they share the same father. He has an interesting power set, like, he’s a complicated character but a really fun character.”
Moore also feels that Styles’ portrayal of the character will boost the character’s appeal upon his return:
“Having met Harry Styles, he is as charming as you think you want him to be. And I think there’s no limit to how popular that character’s gonna be once we get to bring him back.”
Many theorists believe Eros/Starfox will play a compelling part in the subsequent Multiversal adventures starring the Avengers. His history in the comics supports this argument. The character was a member of the primary Avengers team in the 1980s. Who’s to say his MCU counterpart will not follow a similar path? Moreover, his abilities may make him an intriguing addition to the team. Besides possessing the skill set of an Eternal, Starfox has the psionic power to activate the pleasure centers of people’s brains within a 25-foot distance of himself.
While this power has resulted in various controversial depictions of the character in comics, we may expect its use in the MCU to be productive. If Starfox joins the fight against Kang the Conqueror, his abilities might be valuable to the team. It may not be enough to eliminate the time-traveling entity. It could, however, be able to slow him down.
It’ll be fascinating to see how the character’s significance is addressed in future appearances. One can only hope to see him in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
