The popularity and success of the Rush Hour franchise grew more demand for the sequels, and after 16 years, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are now in talks for a fourth film. Both stars are enthusiastic to return for another action-filled comedy movie that will surely rake in money again at the box office.
But, it has been years since the last film was released, and just as fans are eager for another Chan-Tucker tandem, Rush Hour producer revealed he has long been pushing for more installments.
Rush Hour Producer Wants Jackie Chan And Chris Tucker Back For More Action
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Rush Hour producer Arthur Sarkissian wanted to release more films. He believed Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker would be down for another ride, so long as they got a good script.
Sarkissian badly wanted to make the sequel to the trilogy happen so he asked the studio to bring the project in, with an agreement taking place in 2014, though unfortunately, it was never signed. Instead, Warner Bros. studio chairman Toby Emmerich suggested a TV series would be a good idea. The show ran for only one season on CBS, without Chan or Tucker in the lead.
In 2012, Sarkissian spoke with Crave Online about his plans for Rush Hour 4. The producer revealed he was working on the sequel, only years after, there is still no real update about the fourth film’s progress:
“I am working on Rush Hour 4 right now with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. I’m trying to do it closer to how I did Rush Hour 1, more down to earth, more gritty, introduce two new characters, and make it real the way the first one was.”
He also revealed his dissatisfaction with the third movie, claiming it did not introduce anything new to the narrative:
“I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit. It’s not a matter of just bringing them back to do another segment of that or a sequel to it by putting them in another city and having them bicker. I don’t want that. I want something new.”
Brett Ratner, who directed all three Rush Hour films, was caught in a controversy following sexual misconduct allegations. At the moment, Sarkissian confirmed that the filmmaker is not attached to the upcoming Rush Hour film, and whether they will take him in again, Sarkissian has no definite answer.
Will Another Rush Hour Movie Happen?
In a more recent interview with CBR, Sarkissian told fans that Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have more stories to tell and that he wants to do more Rush Hour films:
“I would love to give the fans and the world Rush Hour 4 because I just think there are more stories to tell with these two guys, and hopefully, it will come to pass. That’s all I can say about it because that’s where my mind is at right now. I mean, I just want to give this franchise at least one more because it really deserves it.”
Chris Tucker once confirmed that the Rush Hour team is currently working on the script, and they are in the early stages of production. Jackie Chan’s management, however, debunked the rumor that the actor has agreed to return to the franchise.
Rush Hour movies are available on Netflix.
