Helen Mirren, the legendary actress and a veteran icon of Hollywood, who has had a presence ranging from Sheridan-composed Westerns to the Fast & Furious drama has now stepped onto the CBM franchise as well. Checking off genres like her Spring to-do list, Mirren is now scoring a full house with her 2023 roster. For now, the actress is aiming to debut as a villainess in the upcoming DC project, Shazam: Fury of the Gods! which witnesses the 77-year-old’ Hespera proving a formidable villain to Zachary Levi’s Shazam.
Helen Mirren’s Mishap While Filming Shazam! 2
The Gosford actress has never been one to be unprofessional on set. But according to recent reports, her dedication to whatever role she signs on to portray has just set a bar for her fellow actors. In her red couch appearance on The Graham Norton Show this week, Helen Mirren, who plays Hespera in Shazam! Fury of the Gods spoke of sustaining an injury on set while filming and the ensuing events that followed:
“I broke [the little finger] on one of the stunts, but I was incredibly brave, and I didn’t say anything because I wanted to be a real stunty person. So, I didn’t complain.”
As Pedro Pascal and Ariana DeBose looked on from the red couch, Mirren demonstrated the finger that she managed to injure while filming a stunt scene. Though the CBM industry is known for its extensive use of green screens, stunt doubles, CGI, and VFX to recreate any scene that is either too difficult to capture in real-time or may cause harm to the actors, some scenes do, however, end up using the actual actors with elaborate contraptions attached to their body for support and safety.
Helen Mirren’s Debut in Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Helen Mirren is set to make an iconic entry alongside Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler as newcomers in the CBM franchise. Their designated role as villains has already made the arc of the coming Shazam! 2 films an interesting talking point. The trio is set to portray the daughters of Atlas, Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea respectively who arrive on Earth to reclaim an ancient and powerful magic that was stolen from them (or so they believe) a long time ago.
The Daughters of Atlas will encounter Shazam and his teenage-turned-superhero posse as they fight to protect Earth from the carnage that the trio is sure to cause in their need for vengeance. Shazam! Fury of the Gods will not only be the first of three DCU films currently in transition from the old era to the new but also deliver Zachary Levi to his fate in the franchise’s future depending on the reception of his second DC outing.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods! premieres on March 17, 2023.
