Jolie cemented her status as a female action star by pulling off her own daring stunts. Even though the film was a big commercial hit, Jolie’s creative vision for the character wasn’t fully conveyed. Despite this, Jolie believes the movie gave her the confidence to continue performing her own stunts in her later films.

Why Angelina Jolie Was Replaced as Lara Croft?

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, a 2001 movie starring Angelina Jolie, was a massive box office hit that brought in over $275 million worldwide. However, Jolie later expressed her regrets about playing that role in the movie. Jolie wasn’t happy with how her character was depicted on screen. She believed that the way Lara Croft was portrayed wasn’t “s*xy or real at all,” and that the movie’s producers were unable to adjust anything to suit what she wanted.

Jolie stated,

I just don’t feel like I need to do another one, because I felt very happy with the last one. It was the one that we really wanted to do.”

Jolie was later replaced in the 2018 installment of the franchise despite her success in the first two prequels, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003). The franchise decided to replace Jolie with Alicia Vikander in the new sequel.

Vikander gave a new perspective and was a perfect fit for the character. The choice to move on without Jolie was made in order to find a more seamless transition, despite the fact that many fans had hoped to see her remain in the part due to her dedication and persona.

Vikander gave her everything to the character of Lara Croft. She worked with a personal trainer to get into incredible shape before filming and was frequently seen running, jumping, and performing physical feats in Tomb Raider.

Alicia Vikander had a breakout in 2015 with roles in films like the mind-bending thriller Ex Machina and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
