For the past few years, there has been a steady increase in interest in the fake butt. Even so, some actors still seem more reticent to discuss their use of prosthetic butts in their films. Well, it is common for actors to work hard to maintain an excellent physique, but in the 2008 war movie Valkyrie, Tom Cruise appeared to need a little boost.
The 60-year-old actor probably never thought he would have to refute a rumor about his butt—more specifically, that he wore a fake one. Celebrities often prefer to ignore such bizarre rumors or absurd accusations.
The rumors first surfaced after a screenshot of his butt from a 2008 movie went viral on Twitter. Since then, over 50,000 people have liked the tweet, and many have defended him by pointing a finger at the different shot’s angle.
Others suggested that since Cruise performs his own stunts, the ‘stunt butt’ may be worn for protection rather than to accentuate his booty. Some people had a more sheer theory: the man is in excellent shape and never skips a workout.
Yet what is the opinion of the Top Gun: Maverick star himself?
Tom Cruise Dispelled False Butt Rumors
The riveting true account of the July 20th assassination plot against Adolf Hitler is told in the Bryan Singer 2008 film, Valkyrie. However, viewers could not help but notice Tom Cruise’s seemingly enhanced behind amid the film’s intense action sequences and pulse-pounding suspense.
The rumors spread like wildfire, became the talk of the town, and led many people to doubt the actor’s suitability for the role based on his outward appearance. Cruise once agreed to an exclusive interview to talk about the infamous ‘fake butt’ controversy. Always the professional, the actor did not hesitate to address the problem head-on.
Moviegoers have questioned whether the Jack Reacher actor performed a lot of squats to prepare for the role or if he had extra padding in his pants during one action scene in Valkyrie.
Nevertheless, Cruise denied using any prosthetics in Valkyrie when asked by Screen Rant about the rumored posterior use. He claimed he had never heard of this before.
“I have no idea. There was no prosthetic in Valkyrie. No.”
Additionally, he revealed that there were even no prosthetics visible when you watch him in American Made.
“It’s me. It’s not CGI, it’s me. I do my own mooning in films. So let it be known, I do my own mooning.”
Was The Butt Actually Real?
Naturally, some people remain skeptical. Writer Alan Hanson, who first proposed the idea that Tom Cruise had attached a phony posterior in the 2008 movie Valkyrie, stated in an interview with The Cut that he does not buy Tom Cruise‘s defense. He said:
“Tom Cruise definitely wore a fake butt for that scene. I look at butts all the time so I can usually tell when they are fake or real.”
Wes Okerson, who trained the action star for Valkyrie (he spent six months on set), was even contacted to provide some clarification.
Okerson claimed that he was also unaware of the rumors. However, he stated that Cruise was the only one with a butt in the now-famous photo.
He further laughed and replied:
“It is real. He was working long hours and we were training every single day. Definitely, definitely real. He does his own stunts. It’s pretty well-documented…The guy trains really, really hard. He puts in the hours and he puts in the effort and the work.”
Valkyrie continues to be a standout film in Tom Cruise’s illustrious career despite this shocking revelation. Both critics and viewers praised the movie’s gripping story, compelling performances, and historical accuracy; it grossed nearly $201.5 million worldwide.
Well, Valkyrie is available on Max.
