Spider-Man (2002)

1. During the filming of the first Spider-Man (2002), 4 Spidey costumes were stolen from the film sets in LA. A reward of $25,000 was kept for anyone who could recover them. 

2. The scene in Spider-Man where Peter catches Mary Jane and the contents of her lunch tray in the cafeteria took a total of 15 takes to record. No CGI was used.

3. Before the release, Hugh Jackman was in talks with producers of Spider-Man to make a cameo appearance as Wolverine in the film. However, that couldn’t happen. 

4. On May 5th, 2002, Spider-Man was recorded as the first movie ever to earn more than $100 million during its opening weekend.

5. Tobey Maguire suffered an actual back injury when he was filming for Seabiscuit in 2003. The injury almost led to a recast in Spider-Man 2.

6. Dr. Otto Octavius’s mechanical arms were controlled by a team of 16 puppeteers that included 15 guys and one woman.

7. To create the character of Sandman, Sam Raimi did extensive research on sands. He apparently studied 12 different varieties of sand under a microscope. 

8. Out of 3 Spider-Man films that Sam Raimi has directed, he considers his performance is the third part as the worst. He was in fact reluctant on directing the Doctor Strange sequel due to the poor reception of the third Spidey film.

9. The Vulture was in talks to appear in Spider-Man 3 and Ben Kingsley was even appointed the role. However, producer Avi Arad requested to have Venom as the main antagonist of the film.

10.  Avi Arad admitted in a 2018 interview that he regrets insisting on Venom’s presence in the film.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

11. Sally Field who plays Aunt May in this franchise revealed in an interview that she took up the role as a favor to her friend Laura Ziskin, a producer who died from breast cancer soon after the movie was finished.

12. Director Marc Webb revealed in a Time interview that Stan Lee insisted on adding lines in his silent cameo appearance in the film. Apparently, Stan Lee wanted to say, “Oh, Dostoevsky. He’s like the Russian Stan Lee.”

13. The Green Goblin costume that Dan Dehan wore in this film didn’t have much ventilation. This resulted in extensive sweating due to which Dan lost 7 pounds in just two days of filming.

14. To shoot one of the scenes of this film at New York Times Square, director Marc Webb revealed that they spent three nights filming in the real location, then built their own version in Long Island. A lot of VFX work had to be done.

15. In order to prepare for the role, Tom Holland shadowed a student for two days at the Bronx High School of Science. 

16. For his 7.5 minutes role in this film, Robert Downey Jr. raked in a whopping $10 million.

17. The voice in Spidey’s suit in this film happens to be of Jennifer Connelly’s who is Paul Bettany’s wife. Bettany lent his voice too for JARVIS in the Iron Man franchise.

18. Jake Gyllenhaal revealed in an interview that he was so nervous on his day 1 of filming that he forgot all his lines in a scene with Tom Holland and Samuel L. Jackson.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

20. Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal told the New York Times in an interview that she had advised Tom Holland and Zendaya, as well as Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to not date each other as soon after they were cast for the film.

21. Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned in the franchise was taken aback when Alfred Molina asked him for an autographed photo. Initially, Batalon thought Molina playing a prank on him but it turned out that Molina’s stepdaughter is a big fan of him.
