The Elder Wand, introduced in The Tale of the Three Brothers, is deemed an unbeatable wand of immense power. In The Deathly Hallows, its origins become truth when Voldemort seeks to claim its power.
This sets off a chase through history to identify each wizard who possessed the Elder Wand before Voldemort. From Antioch Peverell to Arcus to Godelot and many others, the Wand has a long bloody history of owners. In the Harry Potter series, the immensely powerful Elder Wand passed between many hands before Harry Potter took possession of it. One of the most unlikely owners was antagonistic student Draco Malfoy. Though only wielding the Wand briefly, it reveals much about Malfoy’s inner character.

The Elder Wand’s Complex Ownership
The Elder Wand has a convoluted history regarding its mastery and allegiance. Albus Dumbledore acquired the Elder Wand by defeating Gellert Grindelwald in 1945 and remained its rightful owner until his death in 1997.
No one but Dumbledore was the long-lasting owner and no one tried to get hold of the Elder Wand because they knew that it was nearly impossible. Dumbledore was known as the greatest wizards of all time.

How Draco Gained Mastery
Though feared to be unbeatable, Dumbledore is disarmed by Draco Malfoy in Half-Blood Prince, causing mastery to pass unwillingly to the entitled Slytherin student.
“I was supposed to kill you!” Draco exclaims during the fateful confrontation, but he is unable to commit murder. Still, by physically disarming Dumbledore against his will, Draco becomes the new master of the legendary Elder Wand.
In the original plan, Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him, thus making him technically undefeated but what he did not expect was Draco disarming him thus making him the next owner of the ward. But Draco was unaware of becoming the master of the Elder wand, thus the wand was buried with Dumbledore.

The Final Keeper of Elder Wand
Voldemort steals the wand from the grave of Dumbledore, soon to realize that the wand does not obey him. He believed that Snape was the true owner of the wand since he killed Dumbledore so he even killed Snape to make sure that it was truly his.
During the Battle of Hogwarts, Voldemort’s killing curse worked but instead, it destroyed the Horcrux inside Harry. Thus, failing to disarm, kill, and defeat Harry makes Harry the true owner of the Wand. Then Harry destroyed the Wand after repairing his. Thus ending the most powerful wand- Elder Wand’s bloody history.
The path to mastery of the Elder Wand was complex and convoluted. Many believed themselves the rightful owners at different points, including Draco Malfoy and Voldemort. But Dumbledore and then Harry Potter were the only two wizards who ever controlled the legendary wand’s allegiance through their own actions. Its twisted ownership history demonstrates the wand’s independent nature in choosing its true master.
