We’re, for the most part, recounted stories that focus on the heroes to cause us to relate to them and disdain the villains. The story of superheroes is essential but villains are equally important. Without the bad guy, the narratives would fail. Creators have given us numerous extraordinary miscreants throughout the long term and now we’re also getting films with supervillains as the leads. Here we have compiled 10 villains that are more interesting than the heroes they fight.
1) Joker
One of the most popular villains of the modern age. The Joker has been popular in almost any version. The character has been played by many actors including Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto. Joaquin Phoenix played the character in the solo movie, which got him several awards. There’s something about the character that the fans love. He’s one of the best and intriguing villains in the DC Universe.
2) Bane
Even villains with superpowers fall to the Dark Knight. Someone who’s strong physically and mentally can compete with Batman. Bane is an interesting character that competes with Batman physically and mentally. He is overall a great character. He survived one of the most harrowing prisons in the world, which is a stark contrast to Batman’s own and the fact that he’s been able to become as formidable as he is.
3) Captain Cold
Recently, Reverse Flash has established himself as a great threat to Flash, but Captain Cold is an interesting character. Captain Cold is the leader of the Rogues, a group that was created to take down the Flash, he is armed with a special freeze ray he uses for pulling heists. Captain Cold has been able to take the disparate personas of Flash’s adversaries and produce them into a power that can equal the Fastest Man Alive.
4) Daken
Daken was a boy who lost his mother and was abandoned by his father, he was then raised by people that would never really love him. Daken’s rage at his father is quite understandable and the lack of love in his early life explains his intentions.
His own stakes in the fight against his dad bode well and have made him probably one of the best adversaries. Investigating what his identity was and what he could become is more captivating than Wolverine’s consistent distress over his activities.
5) Doctor Octopus
Spider-Man’s one of the oldest foes is actually one of his best. Doctor Octopus was displayed as a cackling mad scientist type but in the recent years, the character has seen immense growth. His time as the Superior Spider-Man is especially impressive and was praised by the fans. Spider-Man stays largely the same but Doctor Octopus has changed and grown.
6) Baron Zemo
Baron Zemo, the son of a Nazi, is a very intriguing character. He’s been given a chance to turn his back on the life of being a villain. Zemo chooses to be evil seemingly for his own sake, and he’s not some monstrous racist like Red Skull. His time as Citizen V with the Thunderbolts gave him a chance to become something more than he ever was but he doubled down and continued attempting to be evil. There is something in particular about that choice that is so much more interesting than Cap’s constant do-gooding.
7) Ultron
It’s a shame that Avengers: Age Of Ultron didn’t dive further into Ultron’s personal issues, as it added a layer to his characterization. Ultron was going through an existential crisis firmly rooted in his inability to understand why Tony Stark created him. He took on the Avengers alone and none of the events of Captain America: Civil War would have been possible had it not been for Ultron.
8) Lex Luthor
The idea of Superman is simple and fans love the character. He’s the exemplification of everything great in mankind, nothing extremely complex about it. But on the other hand, Lex Luthor is a greedy, venal man whose entire motivation for his villainy is jealousy. Lex Luthor is actually a damaged person trying to make his way through a world that feels like it left him behind. He had a complex past that fans would love to read about.
9) Sinestro
Sinestro has always been one of Hal Jordan’s greatest enemies. Sinestro is a type of person who tries to make sense of the universe in the only way he knows how, which is by imposing his will upon it. In Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern, there’s so much there that he was often the main character of the stories where he appeared. Additionally, his great lines make him way more entertaining than Hal Jordan.
10) Magneto
Magneto has a good backstory that has taken his own racism and made sense of it. Magneto is a terrorist but his terrorism is all about protecting a minority from the genocidal tyranny of the majority. He is a sympathetic villain even when he’s doing the worst things. He got incredible powers and great lines. He’s become more interesting than the X-Men themselves. Fans love Magneto so much that he’s been made a part of the X-Men on several occasions.
