If you’ve been looking forward to the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise, you now have even more to look forward to in COD MW3. The next Modern Warfare game seems to be shaking things up, as a new marketing campaign has teased the return of the fan-favourite Zombies Mode, which is a first for the Modern Warfare series.
Zombies Mode was first introduced in Call of Duty: World at War as a reward for beating the campaign. Back then, it was called Nazi Zombies. Since then, the mode has returned in many COD games, with its latest iteration being in Call of Duty: Vanguard. But this is the very first time that it’ll be appearing in a Modern Warfare game. In fact, it wasn’t even present in last year’s MW2, which disappointed many fans. Finally, after a year of waiting, we’re getting more Zombies content.

Return of Zombies Mode Teased in New MW3 Teaser
In a new marketing scheme by Activision, some players are getting a message from an unknown number. The message simply says ‘*** COMMS SECURED ***’. A pretty ominous and arbitrary message until you realise you can actually send a message back, saying ‘Zombies’. If you do so, you’ll get another message from the number, this time an audio clip. If you play it, you’ll hear the sound of a screeching zombie, along with what seems to be a clanging chain.
It sounds pretty creepy, but just hearing that zombie’s screech was probably enough to excite Zombies fans all over the world. What’s even more exciting about this revelation is that the studio behind the mode’s inception, Treyarch, may be helming the Zombies mode, as suggested by industry insider Tom Henderson, while the main game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games, who are known for Call of Duty: Vanguard, Advanced Warfare, and World War 2.

What Can We Expect from MW3’s Zombies Mode?
Now that we have official confirmation that Zombies will be in the next game and Treyarch may be helming the project, it’s safe to say that the new iteration of the mode is in good hands. Treyarch is the right studio to call to make the Zombies mode. It has made masterpieces, such as maps like Origins and Mob of the Dead, but even in Black Ops: Cold War, the Outbreak mode stood out as being really creative.
Many were left wanting with COD: Vanguard’s Zombies mode, as they felt that the gameplay was just boring and didn’t innovate in any major way. Treyarch is arguably the most creative of the three main studios that make Call of Duty. And at this point in the franchise’s long run, Modern Warfare is the name that grabs most people’s attention. They wouldn’t want to fumble this opportunity. With all that being said, COD MW3 has the potential to be the most complete and fulfilling experience in the Call of Duty franchise in a while.
