April 28th marked the start of Zack Snyder’s Full Circle event in California. Held to finally bring a sort of closure of his DC stint to fans and himself, the three-day event is showing screenings of his three DC masterpieces. That is, of course, Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and his version of Justice League.
Not only that, but he also organized panels involving cast and crew from the movies to have discussions with the audience. Obviously, the excitement was out of this world about the event, especially as it is held in the ArtCenter College of Design of which he is also an alumnus.
Interestingly, during the discussion panel following the screening of Batman vs Superman, he revealed how he was initially going to go in a particular way with the Greek Gods that would have changed the course of Superman forever.
Zack Snyder’s initial idea about the Greek Gods
During the discussion panel following the screening of Batman vs Superman, Zack Snyder and John ‘D.J.’ Des Jardin revealed that their initial plan was to portray Zeus and the other Gods as Krypotonians. And it was Ares, who was responsible for crashing the scouting ship on Earth, that was seen in Man of Steel.
However, DC Studios were unwilling to move forward with that idea as it would have completely changed the course of the Greek Gods and Superman’s background. Which, by extension, might also have impacted their future. As a result, the idea was shelved in the canon universe never to be revisited again.
Although fans seem conflicted about this, it sure has given them major food for thought and opened up a lot of new debates on the topic. Especially as Snyder’s time in DC has ended, there is no chance of ever exploring this line of thought ever again.
Zack Snyder’s Full Circle event
Although the major event and attraction of the event are inevitably the screenings and star-studded panels, that is not all there is to it. As Zack Snyder announced at the end of March, this event will also benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Autumn Snyder Tribute Fund.
Named after Zack Snyder’s late daughter, who at the age of 20 died through suicide. It should be mentioned that this tragedy was the very reason Snyder took a break from his directorial duties of Justice League, and gave way to Joss Whedon. Although Whedon depicted a version of his own vision of the story, Zack Snyder later reshot and released his version of the movie as he was not entirely satisfied with Whedon’s version.
Justice League Snyder cut also featured Leonard Cohen’s song Hallelujah in the trailer as that was allegedly his daughter’s favorite song. The movie is expected to have a screening today to mark the ending of the event. As a result, fans are excited to see if they learn any new tidbits of information from the filming process from the director.
Zack Snyder’s Full Circle event is currently taking place at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.
