Zachary Levi, the famous Shazam! actor has recently starred in the movie’s sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Levi began acting when he was a child and went to pursue his dream in Los Angeles. His acting career truly began in 2002, with the ‘FX’ television movie, ‘Big Shot: Confessions of a Campus Bookie,’ in which he played Adam. In 2007, he also debuted on Broadway with ‘First Date in 2013.’ However, his most notable role has been that of Chuck Bartowski in the television series ‘Chuck’.
Zachary Levi’s Net Worth
Levi’s career began to pick up pace after his role as Chuck Bartowski, a computer nerd turned CIA agent. The addition of the lead role in the Shazam! Franchise has been the icing on the cake. Zachary Levi has voiced the endearing character of Flynn Rider in the animated movie Tangled (2010). He also performed ‘I see the light’ with Mandy Moore, which went on to win a Grammy. In 2019, he was cast as the lead actor for Shazam!
Zachary Levi continues to play the lead in the sequel and is one of the highest earners for this character. While his co-stars made considerably less, Levi took home $2.5 million for the second installment of the movie, according to Showbiz Galore.
As of 2023, Levi’s net worth is estimated to be $12 million.
Shazam! Sequel, Hit or Miss?
The 2019 Shazam! was an impressive box office success, grossing $140 million locally, and $367 Million worldwide. But does the sequel hold a candle to its predecessor? With a budget of $100 Million (a rarity even in Hollywood), the Shazam! sequel was anticipated to be a box-office success. However, the film had a somewhat disappointing debut with only $30.5 Million from 4071 theatres. The international box office collection has also been at a dismal $65.5 million.
“DC sequels have seen diminishing returns in recent years,” says Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at BoxOffice Pro. “That’s compounded by the current creative shakeup, whose impact won’t be felt for a couple of years [but] makes the broader franchise feel even more fragmented to audiences for the time being.”
Positive reviews may not be too useful to the situation in the coming few weeks, as the film landed a B+ CinemaScore, while its predecessor received an A. Levi went on to address on Twitter, that the Zack Snyder fanbase wanted the sequel to fail, as a consequence of Warner Bros. dropping Snyder’s DC Universe.
Shazam! is on a lighter note than the traditional Snyder style, which is more serious and gloomy. However, despite the underwhelming box office collections, Zachary Levi maintains a positive attitude about the film. He claims it is one of the most fun roles he has ever played.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now out in theatres.
