Shazam 2 has been a critical dumpster fire for the DC franchise. Its star, Zachary Levi, has been running around with pails of water, trying to put out the fire while simultaneously managing to fan the flames. And the DCEU fandom has not taken kindly to the proceedings. Shazam! is an extension of the SnyderVerse, and the latter dismantling the former is not a good look for the “Shazam-ly” (as Levi calls it). In the aftermath of that corrosive animosity that has been raging between the pair, the actor has addressed the issue head-on, leaving no room for debate or discussion about his intent, favorable or otherwise.
Zachary Levi Looks to Make Peace With DCEU Fans
In a recently uploaded Instagram Live story, the actor serves to clear up the misunderstanding that has persisted over the past few days over what Zachary Levi has been intending to say and what the netizens have taken him to mean. The actor, who has constantly been defending his film since its release, has on more than one occasion claimed how a certain faction of the fandom does not like him and he has also claimed that the critique of the sequel doesn’t make sense and it represents a single-minded approach toward taking down a film without even giving it a chance first.
However, these arguments in the aftermath of Shazam 2 flailing at the BO have caused some to point out how he has been pinning the blame on the SnyderVerse fans for his movie not panning out as he’d expected. But Levi clears that up in his recent story, claiming:
“Listen, I haven’t blamed anybody. There’s not one single person that I have blamed for anything about the way that our movie has performed. The reason I decided to share [The Wrap story] was not because I wanna blame anybody for anything. It’s because I do not want to be blamed for things that are not on me. And as a leader, and I believe, a protector of my family, my Shazam-ly and everyone who worked so hard on these movies… we have been doing everything we can to fight for you, the fans.”

He claimed how the Shazam! the team had worked hard to get Henry Cavill for the first film and JSA actors from Black Adam for the sequel but those plans were “thwarted” because of production complications. Levi, at length, also relayed that videos or clips existing of him saying something that sounds like him blaming others for his film’s failure are “propaganda” to feed into the mass’s opinion of him accusing the DCEU fandom, and that those clips do not convey the whole message and are instead chopped up or edited to sound entirely different.
Zachary Levi v SnyderVerse Fandom: The War Rages On
After an erroneous few weeks, even the ever-living rumor mill is tired of spinning tales about the number of ways the Snyder fans and Zachary Levi have clashed over the simple concept of a box office failure. The former do not like Levi’s portrayal of Shazam and what it represents for the now-extinct mainstream DCEU while Levi does not like the senseless hatred that has been pouring out of the critics who haven’t stopped to consider that the film might be legitimately good.
The constant barrage of negativity that has shrouded the Shazam! franchise then brings the matter to a head where Zachary Levi feels compelled to address the friction, especially after his commentary on how the critics have been hacking away at his film has been loosely translated to mean that he is blaming the Snyder fans for Shazam 2’s box office failure.
The film, for all its peaks and troughs, has genuinely brought back the taste of a superhero movie with its compelling villains, the hero’s rise and fall, subtle humor, a cause to fight for, the crescendo of its plot, and an emotionally well-balanced curtain call. There seemingly exists not one reason why Fury of the Gods should fail at the box office, and so miserably at that.
