Joe Rogan is no stranger to backlashes and online controversies. His podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, is often the hot topic for headlines for his bizarre comments and thoughts that he lets run amuck. Therefore without further delay, the ‘controversy king’ is again back at it with a string of comments to shock the world.
This time, on the 8th May episode of his podcast, Rogan claimed, acting is an intense job and requires a lot of physical and mental capability that many fail to encompass and in turn lash out. Therefore, in brief, Joe Rogan defended the questionable and visibly unacceptable actions of the stars as the byproduct of their ‘intense’ profession.
Joe Rogan defends Will Smith’s Oscar slap
Joe Rogan with his special guest for that day, Tony Hinchcliffe discussed a lot of thought-provoking topics that led people to ultimately think whether it is at all worth their time or not. Not far into the episode, Rogan brought up the infamous Oscar incident that still lives on the internet as a meme. But also an incident that brought a lot of important topics to the table to be discussed. The actor Will Smith’s spur-of-the-moment aggression on Chris Rock proved nearly fatal to his career. Such action against a simple harmless joke was uncalled for, but The former News Radio actor says it was all a byproduct of being an intense actor. He said,
“To be [an intense actor], whether it’s Mel Gibson or any of these actor types, to be insanely good in a movie, you’ve got to be a little crazy,”
He then goes on to explain how being an actor takes a toll on one’s mind. Thus, the host of the podcast went on to connect Smith’s unruly behavior with the film he won an Oscar for and reasoned that his action is justifiable. He said,
“He’s an amazing actor, right? He shows emotion in his film, it’s so real,—The guy’s probably always on the verge of crying, it’s probably a mess.”
Rogan makes an assumption that the line between the reel and real for actors like Will Smith has to be a blur in order to give out a sincere performance.
Joe Rogan defends the public outburst of other actors too!
Joe Rogan also extended support to Mel Gibson and Johnny Depp besides Will Smith, and extended his hands of empathy for the actors. As to the common knowledge now, Depp’s private outbursts had been made public while his highly publicized defamation case was going on against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Not only that, there have been numerous accounts of alleged public outbursts of the actor that has come to light throughout the years.
For Gibson, art imitated his life. In 2019, Gibson starred in Dragged Across Concrete, one of the most notorious criminal films of the decade, and one of his most contentious roles. There he reflected on the racism he experienced in his life. On film, his character was seen taking part in a highly offensive racist act. But in reality, he was captured on film spouting his own racist remarks.
Thus Joe Rogan defending the Hollywood A-listers and deeming their actions to be “normal” just because of the pressure they endure as an actor is concerning.
