With her dynamic portrayal of Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson has solidified her place as one of the most iconic and essential figures in the MCU. She played the role of Natasha Romanoff AKA Black Widow in the Marvel superhero movies alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.
When she feels disrespected, Scarlett Johansson is known for never holding back. The Black Widow actress also acknowledges that she experienced hypers*xualization in Hollywood. In an interview way back on May 4th, 2012, the actress was asked inappropriate questions which forced her to shut the interviewer up.
Scarlett Johansson Ran Into Yet Another Inappropriate Question
Scarlett Johansson has been through a number of awkward situations in many interviews, and it brings to mind an unexpected incident that occurred to her in 2012 while she was promoting The Avengers.
Johansson didn’t like it when a reporter by the name of Jerry Penacoli in an interview questioned the actress if she was wearing underwear underneath her costume.
“You’re the fifth person to ask me this today. I’ll leave it to your imagination. Whatever you think I should be wearing or not wearing underneath that suit”.
Trying to explain his tasteless question, the reporter continued.
“Well it’s because it’s such a skin-tight…,” where the actress again interjected. “I’ll leave it up to your imagination.”
Johansson said sarcastically. “Whatever you feel like I should be wearing or not wearing under that costume.”
That was really demeaning and uncomfortable for the Jojo Rabbit actress.
Once she was asked to Discuss Her Character’s Costume Change
She was asked to discuss how her character’s costume changed in the movie during another Avengers: Infinity War promo: “Do I really get to talk about fashion? I honestly don’t know how to answer that question“.
“I’m wearing a leather jumpsuit for much of the movie. And I’ve been wearing it for the last 10 years. If you have any fashion requests that you would like to include, please let us know. I have a new vest, so it was very exciting. I also have a new hairstyle, in case you haven’t noticed yet. It divides people a bit, I can see it, it’s okay. I made that choice and I will stand by it.”
The actress also complained about such questions on actor Daz Shepord’s podcast: “A lot of times I’ve felt like an object. I was typecast in a way where I felt like I wasn’t getting offers of work,” she said.
She did, however, end on a positive note, stating that she already sees change taking place in Hollywood, saying that she has come to this realization that it’s important to understand progress and change when it’s really meaningful.
