During the filming of the Netflix movie “Spenser Confidential,” tensions escalated between Donald Cerrone and Mark Wahlberg. Cerrone, making his acting debut in the film, wholeheartedly embraced the filmmaking process.
In a promotional video released by Netflix, Cerrone discussed his involvement in choreographing the fight scenes. He mentioned that director Peter Berg aimed to create more intense and realistic action sequences. Berg, being connected to the boxing industry through his gym ownership and management company, possessed valuable insights into what genuine fights should entail.
Despite the potential risks associated with working alongside Cerrone, Wahlberg commended the “exceptional stunt team,” emphasizing that no one suffered injuries or caused any damage on set.
Mark Wahlberg Was Wary For His Safety After Fighting Donald Cerrone In Spenser Confidential
While Donald Cerrone had an absolute blast filming Spenser Confidential, remarking on how unbelievable it was to get paid for such an enjoyable experience, his co-star Mark Wahlberg had a slightly different perspective.
Wahlberg, known for his role in The Fighter (2010), made a rather bold statement about his encounters with Cerrone during the movie. He admitted,
“The most dangerous thing I’ve done in film is fighting with UFC fighter Cowboy Cerrone. Cowboy has never been in a fake fight in his life. I was like, ‘You’re kicking me pretty hard.’”
This declaration is noteworthy, considering Wahlberg’s previous experience in realistic boxing scenes where he emphasized the authenticity of the fights. He explained, “…wasn’t a stylized fight, it was real boxing, and we’re not talking about putting the camera in there and saying, ‘OK, we’re going to do a stunt punch here.’ No, we’re going in there and beat the sh*t out of each other and we’re going to make it real.”
Despite the risks involved in working with Cerrone, Wahlberg praised the exceptional stunt team and assured that no injuries occurred and no property was damaged.
Aside from the intense fight sequences, the promotional video also showcased impressive car and semi stunts. Interestingly, Cerrone appeared to enjoy these stunts even more than the fights themselves, expressing his enthusiasm, “Gimme the key, turn me loose, I’ll smash through all the cars all day long.”
Cerrone shared the promotional video on Twitter and extended an apology to Mark Wahlberg which seemed to be mixed with pride and humour.
