In the ever-changing landscape of Hollywood one friendship that has stood the test of time is between Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The childhood best friends have dominated the industry for quite some time now, from an Oscar win to giving birth to a production company their professional journey has been as exciting as their personal one. While it’s not common to have a real connection in the industry, they have been looking out for one another since the beginning.
Thus, in the latest episode of SmartLess: On the Road, the actor Matt Damon revealed how he saved Ben Affleck from the grilling glare of some high schoolers back in the day. They don’t mince words when they’re together, and when Affleck was trying something new one summer, Damon showed him the cold hard truth.
Ben Affleck got brutally roasted by his best friend in high school
It is no secret, that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been best of friends since day one. From living just two blocks away from each other to attending the same high school, it is safe to say the two have a lot of funny instances together. Thus, in Damon’s recent visit to the podcast, SmartLess: On the Road, he revealed one such incident from their high school years. He recalled,
“When he arrived at the high school, I had to set him straight ’cause I was the lord of that theater department,—And I went up to him, like, first day and pulled him up and was like, ‘Hey, you know it’s different here in the theater.'”
Ben Affleck is a good-looking guy for sure without a doubt, but his best friend being the ring leader of their high school theatre group, claimed that wasn’t the way he would get the ticket to get into the school theatre. Thus, Damon was compelled to bring him back on track and explain to him the rules once again. He continued by saying,
“You went straight douche right away. ‘You’re not gonna get by on your looks,’ And we were both like, 5 foot 2.””
Affleck would later end up listening to his friend which would eventually lead him to getting accepted by the theater group. Furthermore, he would also become a bit famous in his high school as he would go on to star in an after-school special.

Ben Affleck’s advice on living together with Matt Damon, is to avoid it at all cost. After Good Will Hunting, the best friend took their relationship to the next step by sharing a bank account and buying a party mansion as their last resort before going bankrupt. When the Batman actor graced The Late Late Show with his presence back in April, he revealed quite a lot about their friendship and gave the fans a little sneak peek as to what it is like to live with the Jason Bourne star. He said,
“I would not suggest living with [Damon],—Came home one day, me and [Casey]. Matt’s there in his shorts and his T-shirt playing the ’92 Sega hockey game in the middle of what was the living room, just surrounded by concentric circles of garbage,”
Although jokes apart, after the success of Good Will Hunting, when the duo found themselves in the spotlight, they remained grounded in their friendship. As time progressed, the bond between Affleck and Damon remained steadfast and still does. The two recently teamed up in Air, the first production by their new company which was released in April with positive reviews all over. The movie is now available on Prime Video to stream.
