“You should’ve shot that because I will never do it again”: Spider-Man Star Kirsten Dunst Refused Director Sam Raimi’s Request to Perform a Terrifying Scene

"You should've shot that because I will never do it again": Spider-Man Star Kirsten Dunst Refused Director Sam Raimi's Request to Perform a Terrifying Scene

Movie sets strive to create a secure atmosphere for actors, yet there are instances where an actor’s expectations may not align with their actual experience. In such cases, it can be advantageous to assert oneself, as evidenced by Kirsten Dunst’s recent revelation of having declined certain requests during her time filming Sony’s Spider-Man movies.

Which Scenes Did Kirsten Dunst Refuse To Shoot

Kirsten Dunst made it clear that she remained firm on her decision not to perform certain stunts that caused her unease. It wasn’t a solitary incident during her tenure as Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man franchise opposite Tobey Maguire, spanning three films.

“I’ve always said ‘no.’ Like, it’s my life, you know? I remember once with Spider-Man, they kept at me with this one stunt where they strung me to the top of the ceiling and basically I bungee jumped. I didn’t really want to do it, and when I tried it I said, ‘Well, you should’ve shot that because I’m never doing it again. You’ll have to find another way’. It was terrifying, I hated it – so you should’ve shot that because I will never do it again.”

Performing stunts can pose significant risks. Previously, Chris Pratt suffered a fall during the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which rendered him unconscious. While recalling the event, Pratt explained that he aimed to land on his shoulder to minimize the impact.

It Wasn’t Just Stuntwork That Kirsten Dunst Refused

In addition to stunts, Kirsten Dunst had to decline other requests while working on the Sony Marvel films. It appears the production wasn’t happy with her appearance and asked her to change her teeth, which she revealed to news.com.au as similar to a “Barbie doll.”

“On Spider-Man one of the producers tried to subtly coerce me into changing my teeth into those perfect Barbie doll teeth. I was like, ‘Nope, not doing that either.'”

It’s not uncommon for actors or actresses to receive requests to change their physical appearance for movie roles dramatically, but in this instance, Kirsten Dunst remained firm in keeping her natural teeth.

This isn’t the first time she has stood up for herself in Hollywood, as she informed director Sofia Coppola during the production of The Beguiled that losing weight was an unfeasible task and that the director needed to accept her as is. Dunst is known for being candid, and those hiring her services should be aware of this fact.

All three Spider-Man films starring Kirsten Dunst are available to rent or buy on Prime Video and Apple TV.
