The Reddit user began her post by stating that she was “really excited” to see the movie because Gerwig, the director, is one of her heroes.

After that, she went on to say that although her now-ex did not know much about the movie beforehand, as the movie went on, he grew “more and more uncomfortable” with the messages in Barbie. She wrote:

“I was aware of its feminist themes and was secretly hoping my [boyfriend] would get the message. Over the duration of the movie, I could tell he was getting more and more uncomfortable/upset. And I was getting really sad (both from the movie and his reaction). And I knew we would end up having a conversation about it afterwards.”

She further claimed that after that, her ex-partner allegedly remained silent until they returned to their car, at which point he allegedly admitted that he “was really offended by the movie”. Also, he suggested her to have watched it with her “girlfriends” rather than him.

Barbie is thus not only breaking many box office records but also many relationships.

Barbie is currently playing in theaters.
