“You nearly killed me”: Marvel Star Salma Hayek Claims ‘Magic Mike’ Nearly Killed Her After She Tried to Save Her Modesty from Channing Tatum

In the third and final installment of the Magic Mike franchise, Channing Tatum puts on his exotic costume for one last time as the R-rated trilogy comes to a staggering and wholesome close. Presented by the Oscar-winning director, Steven Soderbergh, and starring Salma Hayek Pinault as the franchise newcomer, Magic Mike’s Last Dance puts on a threateningly daring display of romance, lap dances, and ambition on the silver screen.

But even as the Soderbergh x Tatum last hurrah promises an all-new roster of dancers and a colorful vision of London’s delightful nightlife, there is more to the story than just the sensually tense drama of the film.

Salma Hayek Recalls a Dance Routine Gone Wrong

When asked about the intoxicating atmosphere on the set of the film and the almost dangerous dance choreographies, Salma Hayek – who plays a mysterious older woman who the film’s protagonist, Mike Lane, falls in love with – recounts a story that has people’s sides splitting with laughter.

“You know, there’s one part that’s not in [the film] where I’m upside down and my legs had to be somewhere. But upside down, one loses sense of direction, and I didn’t do what I was supposed to do, so in the rehearsal, I went like, head down, almost hit my head.

[Channing] held on to my pants, but I was really concerned because my pants were going away, and I couldn’t remember if I had underwear or not in this moment. So, instead of putting my hands to protect my head, I just held onto the pants. He’s like, ‘Put your hands up,’ and I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no.’ [He says] ‘Hold on to my legs,’ and I’m like, ‘No, no, no.’ Until everybody came in and kind of took me away from him, and he said, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I said, ‘What’s wrong with me? You nearly killed me!’”

No film set has ever not had a story to tell, but given the fact that the Soderbergh movie is led by Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek – two of the most prominent, progressive, and empowering sex symbols of the industry, it had to have its fair share of exhilarating behind-the-scene tales stored in reserve for the audience.

Salma Hayek Talks About Lap Dances and Channing Tatum

In a small clip presented during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the elaborate scenes in nightclubs and stages are left alone in favor of a private and one-man show put on by Channing Tatum’s Mike Lane for Salma Hayek’s character in Magic Mike’s Last Dance. The electric lap dance that follows has Kimmel out of breath even before the clip begins and makes him claim, “He’s Channing all over your Tatum” to Hayek once it ends. “And it is just the beginning,” the actress states of the much lengthier dance routine that is to follow.

Salma Hayek later solemnly points out it’s only right that after a career that required her to portray strippers in so many movies, for once, she is the one sitting down to enjoy the show – “I deserve it, I deserve the best,” the Eternals actress says with regards to Tatum, her on-screen partner in the film. And even though she has never received a lap dance from a male dancer before, the Oscar nominee claims, “I mean, if you’re gonna start somewhere, why not Channing?” – and rightly so, it seems, considering how the 15-second clip has left even the veteran late-night talk show host blushing.
