For those who still wonder what made Troy such a big superhit, one of the biggest hands behind this just might be the spectacular performance of Troy‘s actress, Diane Kruger. But even though the actress has always proved herself to be worth all the appreciation she gets, not everyone thinks alike, judging how the legendary director Quentin Tarantino refused to cast her in his $321M anti-nazi film, Inglourious Basterds.
But Kruger wasn’t one to step back, considering how she made it her ‘life mission’ to prove Tarantino wrong for deeming her as not worthy enough for a role in his Brad Pitt starrer movie.

Quentin Tarantino Wasn’t Ready To Cast Diane Kruger In Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Despite Diane Kruger being a prominent and fairly accomplished actress, Quentin Tarantino wasn’t ready to cast her in his movie, Inglourious Basterds. The reason behind this? Simply because he didn’t like the Kruger starrer movie that he watched, thus making him reluctant for the job. Recalling the incident, the Troy actress said,
“He’s so infamous for only hiring the people he thinks are 100% right for the job. And he’s really one of the last directors in Hollywood who gets away with that. He auditioned everyone. He didn’t want to audition me because he saw a movie that I was in he didn’t like. So he didn’t believe in me from the get-go. Literally, the only reason he auditioned me is because there was no one left to audition.”
Kruger also mentioned how the visionary wasn’t ready to believe that she was a German, another reason for him not to cast her in his $321M film. But she was more committed than ever, determined to prove Tarantino wrong, no matter what.
“I had to pay for my own flight from New York to go to Germany because he wouldn’t, even though, obviously, he’s American, but he wouldn’t see me in the U.S. So I had to jump through all these hoops that definitely put my nose out of joint, but I was like, ‘You know what? F*** him! I’m just gonna do that and prove to him that I can do it.’ And thankfully it all worked out.”
Nevertheless, she ended up scoring one of the lead roles in the Brad Pitt starrer movie, and while her character turned out to be a bit challenging for her, she was determined to leave the sets only when the shoot was done.
Quentin Tarantino Ended Up Choking Diane Kruger On Her Last Day Of Shoot
Remembering her last day of the shoot, Diane Kruger revealed how she had to shoot a scene where Christoph Waltz had to choke her. After the shot was done, Tarantino suggested switching places with Waltz in the scene. Sharing how careful he was while doing the scene, Kruger said,
“It was my last day, and I was kinda sad to leave. And knock knock, Quentin’s at my trailer. He comes in and he’s like, ‘Ya know, Christoph is just an actor. And he’s probably gonna squeeze too hard or not enough. I just know exactly what I want so think I should do it.’ So he’s over me choking me, and he’s so sweet. He didn’t want to hurt me, obviously. He was a lot less tough than Christoph was in the large shots. But I couldn’t tell him.”
All in all, casting Diane Kruger in the anti-nazi movie ended up profiting Quentin Tarantino himself, judging from the critical acclamation it received.
