Fans have debated the possibility of Scott Eastwood replacing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for a long time. Fans have been hoping Eastwood will take up the mantle next (with some even attempting to express their desires via some original fanart), as a future version of the iconic mutant born with retractable forearm claws is one that has everyone wondering if it will ever happen.
When Scott Eastwood met with the folks at PopCulture to discuss his new romantic comedy I Want You Back, he couldn’t avoid bringing up Marvel’s X-Men remake since he was so close to the comic book community.
Scott Eastwood is manifesting being considered by the MCU as the future Wolverine
For years, Scott Eastwood‘s name has been in fan chat threads as a discussion topic and a fan art reference. However, he is now ready for a stronger push from you, the fans. Eastwood is prepared for Marvel fans to start a petition calling for him to play Wolverine in the MCU.
“I think you should… start it up.”
Eastwood, when asked if he would ever be seen as Wolverine in the MCU, responded,
“You never know. You just never know in Hollywood.”
Eastwood has made it clear that he is a fan of Wolverine, and not just an actor seeking his turn as the character in the franchise. In an earlier interview with ComicBook.com, Eastwood said that Wolverine would be his first choice for a superhero role. “I mean, Logan,” he remarked. “You gotta give it to Wolverine! Wolverine, all day.”
In an interview with Screen Rant a few years ago, Eastwood said,
“I love Wolverine. He’s one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. He’s a renegade. Total badass renegade.” “He’s kind of, you know, a loose cannon… doesn’t play by the rules… he’s the kind of character that I love.”
Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3
Hugh Jackman has assured fans that his cameo as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3 won’t mess with the prior X-Men storyline. In other words, no matter what happens in the MCU, Jackman’s Wolverine character arc from 2000’s X-Men, to 2017’s Logan will be unaffected. The new Wolverine differs significantly from Jackson’s earlier Wolverine, revealed Ryan Reynolds, in an interview with ET Canada. Neither Reynolds nor Jackman have provided many details about the new Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3.
On the upcoming collaboration with Jackman, Reynolds said,
“We’ve wanted to this; this [sic] for decades…it’s weirdly the perfect time.”
“I never stopped [trying to get him to come back as Wolverine]. I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I believe in timing, as much as hard work and luck and all those intersections that are supposed to meet. Timing’s the big one. I think he was ready. I think he was excited.” “And what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
There’s nothing confirmed about Scott Eastwood ever playing Wolverine.
However, Deadpool 3 is preparing to debut in theaters on November 8, 2024.
