Over the decades, Tom Hanks has established a remarkable movie career as an actor He has appeared in movies across genres and as his usual prowess dictates, he nails his role living the characters on screen.
Fight Club actor Brad Pitt has also walked a remarkable journey in his career, his charm in the movies has always been pleasing to the eyes. But there are some roles Pitt gave up and that includes Hanks Apollo 13.
Brad Pitt’s Mother Was Furious Over Pitt Rejecting Apollo 13
Ron Howard-directed 1995 film Apollo 13, based on Apollo 13 moon mission was a brilliant adaptation of a real event centering around the mission to rescue the astronauts in space whose spacecraft malfunctioned.
Tom Hanks played Commander Jim Lovell. Bill Paxton appeared as Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise, Gary Sinise played the role of grounded pilot Ken Mattingly, and Footloose star Kevin Bacon played Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert in the nail-biting drama. However, there was room for Brad Pitt as he was approached by the makers to appear in the movie.
As per reports, Pitt was offered the role of Jack Swigert which was later played by Bacon but Pitt rejected the role for another iconic thriller of all time, released after Apollo 13. But Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt was furious knowing that her son rejected the role in a movie she loved watching.
“I was talking to my mom the other night and she said, ‘I just saw the best movie called ‘Apollo 13.’ I said, ‘Mom, I turned that down for ‘Seven’ and wait until you see the movie,’” Pitt told The Morning Call.
Certainly, Etta Pitt was unhappy but the Troy star was pretty confident about Seven. Etta Pitt’s concern was perhaps for the director David Fincher who only directed Alien 3 before Seven and that turned out to be a failure.
Brad Pitt Had a Remarkable Journey With David Fincher
Fincher’s second movie Seven turned out to be one of the most celebrated thrillers of all time, many critics considered Seven a masterpiece. Also, the movie has shaped both Pitt’s and the director’s future in the industry. Pitt never shies away from giving enough credit to Fincher for directing his career path. “One of the big pinnacles for me, one of the big moments, was meeting David Fincher,” Pitt told Leonard Maltin once.
“I’ve had a couple of experiences on films, where it wasn’t what I expected. And then, I met my dear friend David Fincher, who was talking films, in a way that was much more articulate than I was … I found direction, that way. That was a big moment.”
The actor-director duo have collaborated on three movies— Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin— Button all three movies have made significant marks among cinemagoers but Seven and Fight Club remained at the top of the favorite movie list of many. But the collaboration of the duo has not ended yet. Pitt is all set to appear in Fincher’s crime thriller The Killer which is scheduled to release on 10 November 2023.
Pitt is also set to produce, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 and Reinaldo Marcus Green’s Bob Marley: One Love, both films are slated for 2024 releases.
