Ryan Gosling’s Unexpected Breakthrough Roles

Ryan Gosling who was previously known for his infamous role in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook, is recently making headlines for his role in Barbie. Returning to the mainstream with his character Ken, in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming summer blockbuster, Gosling sat for an interview to discuss his inception.

Speaking in retrospect about his initial years in Hollywood, Ryan Gosling claimed how he was served with the most unexpected turns and choices. Although Gosling believes the life of an artist is filled with surprises and therefore is willing to embrace the unexpected, he still feels that his life and career brought him some of the most unanticipated startles.

Getting his breakthrough role in the entertainment industry with his 2001 movie The Believer, Ryan Gosling opened up how unexpected it was. Stating how his role as a Jewish kid from New York who becomes a neo-Nazi was completely opposite from his original self, Gosling claimed that is exactly what got him the part.

Ryan Gosling Recalled Director’s Advice For Him

Discussing the way he navigated into Hollywood, Ryan Gosling recalled the advice from his directors that guided him throughout his journey. Opening up about his first big opportunity in the 2001 Henry Bean’s film, Gosling claimed facing challenges due to his role that’s the polar opposite of his real-life character.

However, the actor confessed what his film director Bean told him, which helped him overcome his challenge. “The fact that I wasn’t really right for it was exactly why he thought I was right for it,” Gosling shared. Getting further deeper into his decorated career, Ryan Gosling recalled his next best cult classic The Notebook.

Facing a similar situation while filming the $117.8M The Notebook, Gosling mentioned how he was again challenged with the unexpected. “Nick Cassavetes, straight up told me: ‘The fact that you have no natural leading man qualities is why I want you to be my leading man.’” the actor recalled. 

Thus, realizing his fate is filled with surprises and challenges, Ryan Gosling mentioned embracing them and venturing into his journey.
