Mad Max: Fury Road, the 2015 crazy-wild ride that got audiences hooked to Tom Hardy and Gasoline once again took a lot of time to create. Veteran actor Mel Gibson was originally associated with the franchise ever since its inception in 1979 but he had no problem passing on the role to Tom Hardy.
According to reports, the Peaky Blinders actor had to sit down for a chat with Mel Gibson to discuss taking over the role. In their conversation, Tom Hardy revealed that Gibson gave him some helpful advice and even put in a good word for him before filming started.
Mel Gibson Found Tom Hardy Crazier Than Him!
With a mask over his head, Tom Hardy braved his way through the movie with the bare-minimum dialogue required and a few grunts along the way (as is his style). Being hailed as one of the most adrenaline-pumping and heart-stopping movies of all time, writer-director George Miller truly outdid himself for the movie.
Before the filming took place, the Venom actor wanted to meet Mel Gibson. Being attached to the franchise since its inception back in 1979, Gibson had become the go-to guy for Mad Max movies but that legacy would pass on to Tom Hardy soon. Finding advice and some tips on how to star in a Mad Max movie, Mel Gibson complimented the actor and stated that Miller had already found someone crazier than Gibson.
Tom Hardy revealed in an interview what his chat with Mel Gibson was like and also stated that the Braveheart actor later put on a good word for Hardy before filming began.
“He was bored with me. He said, ‘All right, buddy, good luck with that.’ He called up my agent and said, ‘I think you found someone that’s crazier than I am.’”
According to reports, Gibson had a great time after watching Mad Max: Fury Road and had nothing but praise for the veteran director and his dear-old friend George Miller.
When Mel Gibson Called George Miller The “Einstein of Edit”
After the filming wrapped up and the world waited in excitement at George Miller’s marvel, Mad Max: Fury Road premiered in Los Angeles. According to reports, Mel Gibson was also there to see the movie, and from what the press heard, the reviews from the Mad Max actor were nothing short of great.
“It’s visually spectacular. It’s crazy, but that’s George. He’s a scientist. He’s the Einstein of edit, and of being able to get the pieces necessary to make a truly compelling, in-your-face action sequence.”
With the movie winning 6 Oscars and a strong rating of 8.1/10 on IMDB, the franchise is set to expand once again with the release of Furiosa. With Anya Taylor-Joy portraying the role of Charlize Theron’s Furiosa, the movie is set for a release date of 24th May 2024 in theaters across the U.S.
