On the outside, Emily Blunt has a seemingly perfect life. Her husband is John Krasinski and they have starred in two highly watched and rated A Quiet Place films. Apart from those movies, Blunt is regarded as a tour de force in Hollywood. She has starred in acclaimed and hit films like The Devil Wears Prada, Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow, and more.
But for the first time, she is going to act in a Christopher Nolan film- Oppenheimer. One would think that over the years, she would become comfortable in her profession, especially with the kind of laurels she has gathered. But the star still doesn’t feel in control while being an actress and playing a character.
Emily Blunt Confessed That She Felt Controlled In Her Career
The job of any actor is to slip on the skin of the character and become them on camera. But the process isn’t simple or easy, especially in an industry where everything can feel mechanical. The same goes off-camera. Sometimes actors might feel that, instead of getting the freedom to navigate the industry as per their wishes, they are getting controlled.
In an interview, Emily Blunt once said that she felt puppeteered in her career. However, she has a way out. Her mantra to escape from that feeling is to just latch onto something that feels true. She said:
“You feel very much like a puppet, but it had been what I was accustomed to – so you just get on with it and try to find something that rings true.”
So the actress isn’t blindsided by the industry and what it demands from its professionals. However, since she has seen the full face of it, she becomes wary when others tell her that their kids want to join Hollywood.
Emily Blunt Explained Her Love For Acting And Hate For The Profession
In an interview with Harpers Bazaar, Emily Blunt revealed that she becomes uncomfortable when others tell her that their daughters want to become actresses. She said that she instinctively wants to caution them because it’s a hard profession that demands more. Blunt said:
“My toes curl when people tell me, ‘My daughter wants to be an actress.’ I want to say, don’t do it! Because it’s a hard industry and it can be very disappointing. A lot of people tell you not to take things personally – but it’s completely personal, especially when you’re being judged on how you look. So you just have to endure that side of things.”
Even though being an actress might not be easy, it’s something she doesn’t want to give up. In the recent Harpers Bazaar interview, the Oppenheimer actress said:
“I really don’t want to give up acting; I love it so much. I have this thing inside me, this burning thing that is only fed by this job – which, yes, I entered into casually, but has become a mad love affair.”
So Emily Blunt’s feelings about her industry and profession are complicated after years of working there, but what hasn’t abated is her love of acting.
